So Moses went back to the Lord and said,“ Oh, what a great sin these people have committed! They have made themselves gods of gold.

銀的神像金的神像、你們都不可作、來和我相配，千萬不可給自己作呀。

第二天摩西對人民說：『你們真地犯了大罪了；如今我要上永恆主那裏去，或者可以為你們贖罪。』

於是我像先前那樣、俯伏在永恆主面前、四十晝又四十夜，飯沒有喫，水也沒有喝；都是因為你們所犯的一切罪，你們行了永恆主所看為壞的事、去惹他發怒。我因永恆主向你們大發烈怒、要消滅你們、就很懼怕；但那一次永恆主也聽了我。

『不可為你自己造雕像，也不可造上天、下地、及地底下水中任何物件的形像。

說：『我的上帝啊，我抱愧蒙羞，不敢向我的上帝仰面，因為我們的罪愆多到滅頂，我們的罪過大到滔天。自從我們列祖的日子到今天、我們的罪過都很大；並且為了我們的罪愆的緣故，我們和我們的王、跟祭司、都被交於四圍各地的列王手中，交於刀劍之下，被擄掠、被搶奪、滿臉蒙羞，正如今日一樣。

永恆主啊，是我們滿臉蒙羞：慚愧的是我們的王、和首領跟父老，因為我們犯罪得罪了你。

永恆主以色列的上帝啊，你是公義的，我們才得以剩下來做逃脫的人，就如今日一樣。看哪，我們在你面前有罪過了，因此在你面前沒有人對於這事能站立得住。』

摩西在那裏同永恆主在一起、四十晝又四十夜：飯沒有喫，水也沒有喝。他將這約的話、就是十段話、寫在兩塊版上。

我們犯罪作孽，行惡背叛，偏離了你的誡命典章；

以色列眾人都越犯了你的律法而偏行，不聽你的聲音，以致在上帝僕人摩西律法書上所寫的咒詛和誓言都傾倒在我們身上，因為我們犯罪得罪了上帝。

雖然如此、關於一切臨到我們的事、你總是對的；因為你所行的是誠信，我們所作的是邪惡。
