Then the Lord told him,“ I have certainly seen the oppression of my people in Egypt. I have heard their cries of distress because of their harsh slave drivers. Yes, I am aware of their suffering.

The Lord said,“ I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering.

Then the Lord said,“ I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters. I know their sufferings,

Then the LORD said,“ I have observed the misery of my people in Egypt, and have heard them crying out because of their oppressors. I know about their sufferings,

And Jehovah said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people that are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows;

Even so, he pitied them in their distress and listened to their cries.

He grants the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cries for help and rescues them.

Years passed, and the king of Egypt died. But the Israelites continued to groan under their burden of slavery. They cried out for help, and their cry rose up to God.God heard their groaning, and he remembered his covenant promise to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.He looked down on the people of Israel and knew it was time to act.

In my desperation I prayed, and the Lord listened; he saved me from all my troubles.

“ You saw the misery of our ancestors in Egypt, and you heard their cries from beside the Red Sea.

If you exploit them in any way and they cry out to me, then I will certainly hear their cry.

For he has not ignored or belittled the suffering of the needy. He has not turned his back on them, but has listened to their cries for help.

In all their suffering he also suffered, and he personally rescued them. In his love and mercy he redeemed them. He lifted them up and carried them through all the years.

I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears.

So the Egyptians made the Israelites their slaves. They appointed brutal slave drivers over them, hoping to wear them down with crushing labor. They forced them to build the cities of Pithom and Rameses as supply centers for the king.

I am going down to see if their actions are as wicked as I have heard. If not, I want to know.”

So Leah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Reuben, for she said,“ The Lord has noticed my misery, and now my husband will love me.”

“ About this time tomorrow I will send you a man from the land of Benjamin. Anoint him to be the leader of my people, Israel. He will rescue them from the Philistines, for I have looked down on my people in mercy and have heard their cry.”

This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin.

When I am overwhelmed, you alone know the way I should turn. Wherever I go, my enemies have set traps for me.
