Then Moses set out with Joshua his aide, and Moses went up on the mountain of God.

耶和華與摩西面對面說話，好像人對朋友說話一樣。然後，摩西回到營裡去，只有他的侍從，一個少年人，就是嫩的兒子約書亞，不離開會幕。

那時，摩西正在牧放他岳父米甸祭司葉忒羅的羊群。有一次，他把羊群領到曠野的盡頭去，到了神的山，就是何烈山。

摩西對約書亞說：“你要為我們選出人來，出去和亞瑪力人爭戰；明天我要站在山頂上，手裡拿著神的杖。”於是，約書亞照著摩西吩咐他的行了，去和亞瑪力人爭戰；摩西、亞倫和戶珥都上了山頂。摩西舉起手來的時候，以色列人就得勝；摩西把手放下來的時候，亞瑪力人就得勝。可是摩西的兩手疲乏了，他們就搬塊石頭來，放在摩西下面，他就坐在上面；亞倫和戶珥，一邊一個，扶著摩西的兩手；這樣，他的兩手就穩住，直到日落的時候。約書亞用刀打敗了亞瑪力王和他的人民。耶和華對摩西說：“我要把亞瑪力的名號從天下完全抹掉；你要把話寫在書上作記念，也要告訴約書亞。”

摩西的侍從，嫩的兒子約書亞，就是摩西所揀選的，回答說：“我主，摩西，請你制止他們。”

約書亞聽見人民呼喊的聲音的時候，就對摩西說：“營裡有戰爭的聲音。”
