The people remained at a distance, while Moses approached the thick darkness where God was.

He parted the heavens and came down; dark clouds were under his feet. (niv)

Clouds and thick darkness surround him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne. (niv)

The Lord wraps himself in light as with a garment; he stretches out the heavens like a tent (niv)

Then Solomon said,“ The Lord has said that he would dwell in a dark cloud; (niv)

who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever. Amen. (niv)

On the morning of the third day there was thunder and lightning, with a thick cloud over the mountain, and a very loud trumpet blast. Everyone in the camp trembled.Then Moses led the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain. (niv)

These are the commandments the Lord proclaimed in a loud voice to your whole assembly there on the mountain from out of the fire, the cloud and the deep darkness; and he added nothing more. Then he wrote them on two stone tablets and gave them to me. (niv)

Out of the brightness of his presence clouds advanced, with hailstones and bolts of lightning. (niv)

( At that time I stood between the Lord and you to declare to you the word of the Lord, because you were afraid of the fire and did not go up the mountain.) And he said: (niv)
