Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need.

The commandments,“ You shall not commit adultery,”“ You shall not murder,”“ You shall not steal,”“ You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command:“ Love your neighbor as yourself.”

“‘ Do not steal.“‘ Do not lie.“‘ Do not deceive one another.

“ Which ones?” he inquired. Jesus replied,“‘ You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony,

“‘ Do not defraud or rob your neighbor.“‘ Do not hold back the wages of a hired worker overnight.

The Lord said to Moses:“ If anyone sins and is unfaithful to the Lord by deceiving a neighbor about something entrusted to them or left in their care or about something stolen, or if they cheat their neighbor,or if they find lost property and lie about it, or if they swear falsely about any such sin that people may commit—when they sin in any of these ways and realize their guilt, they must return what they have stolen or taken by extortion, or what was entrusted to them, or the lost property they found,or whatever it was they swore falsely about. They must make restitution in full, add a fifth of the value to it and give it all to the owner on the day they present their guilt offering.And as a penalty they must bring to the priest, that is, to the Lord, their guilt offering, a ram from the flock, one without defect and of the proper value.In this way the priest will make atonement for them before the Lord, and they will be forgiven for any of the things they did that made them guilty.”

Hear this, you who trample the needy and do away with the poor of the land,saying,“ When will the New Moon be over that we may sell grain, and the Sabbath be ended that we may market wheat?”— skimping on the measure, boosting the price and cheating with dishonest scales,buying the poor with silver and the needy for a pair of sandals, selling even the sweepings with the wheat.

He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.

we will get all sorts of valuable things and fill our houses with plunder;cast lots with us; we will all share the loot”—my son, do not go along with them, do not set foot on their paths;

“‘ Do not use dishonest standards when measuring length, weight or quantity.Use honest scales and honest weights, an honest ephah and an honest hin. I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt.“‘ Keep all my decrees and all my laws and follow them. I am the Lord.’”

“ Don’t collect any more than you are required to,” he told them.Then some soldiers asked him,“ And what should we do?” He replied,“ Don’t extort money and don’t accuse people falsely— be content with your pay.”

The Lord detests dishonest scales, but accurate weights find favor with him.

nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

If someone is caught kidnapping a fellow Israelite and treating or selling them as a slave, the kidnapper must die. You must purge the evil from among you.

“ Anyone who kidnaps someone is to be put to death, whether the victim has been sold or is still in the kidnapper’s possession.

For he has oppressed the poor and left them destitute; he has seized houses he did not build.“ Surely he will have no respite from his craving; he cannot save himself by his treasure.Nothing is left for him to devour; his prosperity will not endure.In the midst of his plenty, distress will overtake him; the full force of misery will come upon him.

Do not have two differing weights in your bag— one heavy, one light.Do not have two differing measures in your house— one large, one small.You must have accurate and honest weights and measures, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.For the Lord your God detests anyone who does these things, anyone who deals dishonestly.

And he said to me,“ This is the curse that is going out over the whole land; for according to what it says on one side, every thief will be banished, and according to what it says on the other, everyone who swears falsely will be banished.The Lord Almighty declares,‘ I will send it out, and it will enter the house of the thief and the house of anyone who swears falsely by my name. It will remain in that house and destroy it completely, both its timbers and its stones.’”

and that in this matter no one should wrong or take advantage of a brother or sister. The Lord will punish all those who commit such sins, as we told you and warned you before.

“ It is written,” he said to them,“‘ My house will be called a house of prayer,’ but you are making it‘ a den of robbers.’”

For out of the heart come evil thoughts— murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.

Both hands are skilled in doing evil; the ruler demands gifts, the judge accepts bribes, the powerful dictate what they desire— they all conspire together.

“ They do not know how to do right,” declares the Lord,“ who store up in their fortresses what they have plundered and looted.”

Am I still to forget your ill- gotten treasures, you wicked house, and the short ephah, which is accursed?Shall I acquit someone with dishonest scales, with a bag of false weights?
