主的使者立時擊打希律，因為他不將榮耀歸與上帝，他被蟲子咬，就氣絕了。但是上帝之道卻一直興旺，日益廣傳。

埃及人惡待我們，苦害我們，將很難作的苦工加在我們身上。於是我們向永恆主我們列祖的上帝哀叫，永恆主聽了我們的聲音，看見我們所受的困苦、患難、和壓迫；

原來萬軍之永恆主的葡萄園就是以色列家；他所喜悅栽種的樹就是猶大人；他指望的是公平，唉，倒發生了殺人流血！他指望的是公義，唉，倒來了哀叫聲！

但是希律死了以後，忽有主的一個使者在埃及向約瑟夢中顯現說：『起來，帶着小孩子和他母親，往以色列地去；因為那些要尋索小孩子性命的人已經死了。』

永恆主的使者又對她說：『看哪，你如今懷了孕，必生個兒子；你要給他起名叫以實瑪利，因為你受的苦難永恆主聽見了。

這在埃及地都必為萬軍之永恆主做憑證、做證據，以致埃及人因受了人的欺壓、而向永恆主哀叫，求他給他們差遣一位拯救者時，永恆主就必做護衛者、來援救他們。

在急難中我呼叫永恆主，我向我的上帝呼救；他從他的殿堂中聽了我的聲音，我在他面前的呼救聲入了他耳中。

於是他們在急難中呼求永恆主拯救他們脫離他們的窘迫；永恆主就發命令醫治他們，搭救他們免下冥坑。

不可苦待任何寡婦或孤兒。如果真地苦待他們，他們一向我哀叫，我總要聽他們的哀叫；並且要發怒，用刀殺你們，使你們的妻子成為寡婦，你們的兒女成為孤兒。『我的人民中有貧困的人在你附近；你若把銀錢借給他，不可像放債的對待他，不可在那上頭加利息。就使你甚至於拿鄰舍的衣裳做當頭，在日落以前你也要還給他；因為這是他惟一的遮蓋物，是他的衣裳，做他皮膚之遮蓋物的；若是沒有，他拿甚麼睡覺呢？將來他向我哀叫，我就應允，因為我是有恩惠的。

『你曾看見我們列祖在埃及所受的困苦，垂聽他們在蘆葦海邊的哀呼，

永恆主說：『你幹了甚麼事？你兄弟的血有聲音從地裏向我哀叫呢。

永恆主在米甸對摩西說：『你去，回埃及去；因為那些尋索你命的人都死了。』

你要當天發給他工價，不可等到日落才給他——因為他貧困，他心直掛念着那工錢——恐怕他呼求永恆主而控告你，你就有了罪。

永恆主對以色列人說：『我豈沒有拯救了你們脫離埃及人和亞摩利人、亞捫人、和非利士人麼？西頓人、亞瑪力人、馬雲人、也都壓迫你們；你們向我哀叫，我也拯救你們脫離他們的手。

『我使你的肩膀脫離重擔，使你的手得以放下筐子。你在急難中呼求，我便救拔你；我在雷轟的隱密處應了你，在米利巴水的事上試驗了你。（細拉）

永恆主說：『因困苦人受蹂躪，因貧窮人的哀唉哼，我現在要起來，把他安置於他所切慕的穩妥之地。』

我們向永恆主哀叫，永恆主聽了我們的聲音，就差遣使者把我們從埃及領出來；如今你看，我們都在你邊界上的城加低斯呢。
