Moses spoke to Hobab, the son of Reuel. Reuel was Moses’ father- in- law. Reuel was from Midian. Moses said to Hobab,“ We’re starting out for the place the Lord promised to us. He said to us,‘ I will give it to you.’ So come with us. We’ll treat you well. The Lord has promised to give good things to Israel.”Hobab answered,“ No. I can’t go. I’m going back to my own land. I’m returning to my own people.”

Then the man got up to leave. His concubine and his servant got up when he did. But his father- in- law, the woman’s father, spoke to him again.“ Look,” he said.“ It’s almost evening. The day is nearly over. So spend another night here. Please stay. Enjoy yourself. Early tomorrow morning you can get up and go back home.”

So they sent their sister Rebekah on her way with Abraham’s servant and his men. They also sent Rebekah’s servant with her.

Early the next morning Laban kissed his grandchildren and his daughters. He gave them his blessing. Then he left and returned home.
