And he called the place Massah and Meribah because the Israelites quarreled and because they tested the Lord saying,“ Is the Lord among us or not?”

Moses called the place Massah and Meribah. That’s because the people of Israel argued with him there. They also tested the Lord. They asked,“ Is the Lord among us or not?”

And he called the name of the place Massah and Meribah, because of the quarreling of the people of Israel, and because they tested the Lord by saying,“ Is the Lord among us or not?”

Moses named the place Massah( which means“ test”) and Meribah( which means“ arguing”) because the people of Israel argued with Moses and tested the Lord by saying,“ Is the Lord here with us or not?”

Then he named the place Massah and Meribah because of the quarrel of the sons of Israel, and because they tested the Lord, saying,“ Is the Lord among us, or not?”

So he called the name of the place Massah and Meribah, because of the contention of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the Lord, saying,“ Is the Lord among us or not?”

And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the striving of the children of Israel, and because they tempted Jehovah, saying, Is Jehovah among us, or not?

He named the place Massah and Meribah because the Israelites complained, and because they tested the Lord, saying,“ Is the Lord among us or not?”

And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the chiding of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the LORD, saying, Is the LORD among us, or not?

In your distress you called and I rescued you, I answered you out of a thundercloud; I tested you at the waters of Meribah. (niv)

These were the waters of Meribah, where the Israelites quarreled with the Lord and where he was proved holy among them. (niv)

“ Do not harden your hearts as you did at Meribah, as you did that day at Massah in the wilderness, (niv)

You also made the Lord angry at Taberah, at Massah and at Kibroth Hattaavah. (niv)

So they quarreled with Moses and said,“ Give us water to drink.” Moses replied,“ Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you put the Lord to the test?” (niv)

do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion, during the time of testing in the wilderness,where your ancestors tested and tried me, though for forty years they saw what I did. (niv)

“ This is the Moses who told the Israelites,‘ God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your own people.’He was in the assembly in the wilderness, with the angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our ancestors; and he received living words to pass on to us.“ But our ancestors refused to obey him. And Phinehas son of Eleazar, the priest, said to Reuben, Gad and Manasseh,“ Today we know that the Lord is with us, because you have not been unfaithful to the Lord in this matter. Now you have rescued the Israelites from the Lord’s hand.” (niv)

“ Lord,” he said,“ if I have found favor in your eyes, then let the Lord go with us. Although this is a stiff- necked people, forgive our wickedness and our sin, and take us as your inheritance.” (niv)

Shout aloud and sing for joy, people of Zion, for great is the Holy One of Israel among you.” (niv)

Her leaders judge for a bribe, her priests teach for a price, and her prophets tell fortunes for money. Yet they look for the Lord’s support and say,“ Is not the Lord among us? No disaster will come upon us.” (niv)

And in that day I will become angry with them and forsake them; I will hide my face from them, and they will be destroyed. Many disasters and calamities will come on them, and in that day they will ask,‘ Have not these disasters come on us because our God is not with us?’ (niv)
