於是他們對耶穌說：『那麼你行甚麼神迹、叫我們看見來信你呢？你作甚麼工啊？我們的祖宗在野地裏喫過嗎哪；照所記載的：「上帝將從天上來的餅給他們喫。」』於是耶穌對他們說：『我實實在在地告訴你們，不是摩西將那從天上來的餅給了你們的，乃是我父將這從天上來的真的餅給你們。因為上帝的餅、就是這從天上降下來、將生命給世界的。』於是他們對耶穌說：『主啊，時常將這餅給我們吧。』耶穌對他們說：『我、就是生命的餅；來找我的、必定不餓；信我的、必定永遠不渴。『但是我對你們說過，你們雖已看見，還是不信！凡父所給我的人、必來找我；來找我的、我一定不把他趕出，因為我從天上降下來，不是要獨行我自己的意思，乃是要遵行那差我者的意思。那差我者的意思就是：凡他所給了我的人，連一個也不讓我給失掉，卻要使他在末日復起。我父的意思就是：要使凡見子而信的人都有永生；我還要使他在末日復起呢。』猶太人因耶穌說：「我是從天上降下來的餅」，就唧唧咕咕地議論他。他們直說：『這個人不是約瑟的兒子耶穌麼？他父親和母親、我們豈不認識麼？他如今怎麼說：「我是從天上降下來的」呢？』耶穌回答他們說：『你們別彼此唧唧咕咕地議論了。沒有人能來找我，除非差我的父吸引他；我還要使他在末日復起呢。神言人書上寫着說：「他們都必做上帝所教訓的人」；凡從父聽訓而學習的人都必來找我。這不是說有人看見過父；除了這位從上帝來的、才看見過父呢。我實實在在地告訴你們，信的人有永生。我就是生命的餅。你們的祖宗在野地裏喫過嗎哪，還是死了。但這就是從天上降下來的餅，人喫了他、就不死的。我就是這活的餅，從天上降下來的；人若喫這餅，就必永遠活着；並且我所要給的餅、就是我的肉，為了世人的生命而獻出的。』於是猶太人彼此爭論說：『這個人怎能將他的肉給我們喫呢？』耶穌就對他們說：『我實實在在地告訴你們，你們若不喫人子的肉，不喝人子的血，就沒有生命在你們裏面。嚼我肉、喝我血的人有永生；我還要使他在末日復起。我的肉是真正可喫的，我的血是真正可喝的。嚼我肉、喝我血的人住在我裏面，我也住在他裏面。永活的父怎樣差遣了我，我又因父而活；嚼我的人也必照樣因我而活。這就是從天上降下來的餅，不是像列祖喫過了、還死了那樣的；嚼這餅的必永遠活着。』

降嗎哪像雨做他們的糧食，將天降的穀物賜給他們。人喫天使的食物；上帝送下糧食給他們喫飽。
