Then Moses cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood. He threw it into the water, and the water became fit to drink. There the Lord issued a ruling and instruction for them and put them to the test.

So Moses cried out to the Lord for help, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood. Moses threw it into the water, and this made the water good to drink. It was there at Marah that the Lord set before them the following decree as a standard to test their faithfulness to him.

So he cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a tree. When he threw it into the water, the water became drinkable. The LORD made a statute and ordinance for them at Marah, and he tested them there.

And he cried unto the LORD; and the LORD shewed him a tree,[ which] when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them,

所以留此、為試以色列人遵耶和華藉摩西諭其祖之誡否、

法老相去伊邇、以色列族舉目、見埃及人追襲其後、懼甚、呼籲耶和華、

當憶爾上帝耶和華、此四十年、於野導爾之路、卑抑爾、試驗爾、欲知爾心、守其誡否、

耶和華諭摩西曰、我必自天雨糧、民宜日出、斂日所需、以試其遵我法律否、

上帝歟、爾曾試我、鍊我如鍊銀兮、

耶和華留此諸族、是欲試以色列人未知迦南戰事者、

以試以色列族效其列祖、遵行耶和華之道否、

又於野間、食爾以瑪那、乃爾祖所未識者、卑抑爾、試驗爾、俾終獲福、

以利沙曰、攜麵至、遂投麵於釜、曰、傾之出、予眾食、而釜中無毒矣、○

摩西籲耶和華曰、斯民幾欲以石擊我、何以待之、

以利沙出至水泉、投鹽其中、曰、耶和華云、我治此水、自茲以往、不復令人死、不使土產不稔而隕、

其祭司中、有摩西亞倫、呼籲其名者中、有撒母耳、彼眾呼籲耶和華、蒙其俞允兮、

毋聽其言、蓋爾上帝耶和華試爾、欲知爾果一心一意、愛爾上帝耶和華否、

夫十架之道、於淪亡者則為愚、於我儕得救者、則為上帝之能、

民曰、不然、我必奉事耶和華、約書亞曰、爾擇耶和華而事之、爾自為證、曰、我自為證、曰、爾中所有異族之神、今當去之、專心歸從以色列之上帝耶和華、民曰、我必奉事我上帝耶和華、而聽其言、是日約書亞與民立約、為之定典章律例於示劍、

耶和華諭我曰、雖摩西撒母耳立於我前、我心不眷顧斯民、其逐之離我前、而使之出、

爾遭難而呼我、我即救爾、自雷霆隱處俞允爾、試爾於米利巴水兮、

萬軍之耶和華曰、因我民女如是、我必陶鎔之、煆煉之、否則何以處之、

彼籲予、我必允之、彼遭難、我必偕之、救援而尊榮之兮、

爾於此則喜甚、但今或須受諸試而暫憂、使爾信之驗、寶於火煉可壞之金、於耶穌基督之顯著、得厥讚美、與尊與榮、

鼎以鍊銀、爐以鍊金、惟耶和華鍛鍊人心、

患難之日、爾當籲我、我必援爾、爾亦榮我兮、○
