Then Moses cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood. He threw it into the water, and the water became fit to drink. There the Lord issued a ruling and instruction for them and put them to the test.

And he cried to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a log, and he threw it into the water, and the water became sweet. There the Lord made for them a statute and a rule, and there he tested them,

So Moses cried out to the Lord for help, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood. Moses threw it into the water, and this made the water good to drink. It was there at Marah that the Lord set before them the following decree as a standard to test their faithfulness to him.

So he cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a tree. When he threw it into the water, the water became drinkable. The LORD made a statute and ordinance for them at Marah, and he tested them there.

And he cried unto the LORD; and the LORD shewed him a tree,[ which] when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them,

Then he cried to Yahweh. Yahweh showed him a tree, and he threw it into the waters, and the waters were made sweet. There he made a statute and an ordinance for them, and there he tested them.

他們留在那裡，為要藉著他們試驗以色列人，要知道他們是否聽從耶和華藉摩西吩咐他們列祖的誡命。

法老走近的時候，以色列人舉目觀看，看見埃及人正追趕過來，就非常懼怕，向耶和華呼求。

你也要記念耶和華你的神這四十年在曠野引導你的一切路程，為要使你受苦，要試煉你，要知道你心裡怎樣，看看你肯守他的誡命不肯。

耶和華對摩西說：“看哪，我要把糧食從天上降給你們；人民可以出去，每天收取當天的分量，我好試驗他們是否遵行我的律法。

神啊！你試煉了我們，熬煉了我們，如同熬煉銀子一般。

這些國的人是耶和華留下的，為要藉著他們來試驗以色列人，就是所有沒有經驗過迦南任何戰爭的人；

為要藉著他們試驗以色列人，看他們肯不肯謹守遵行耶和華的道路，像他們的列祖一樣謹守。”

他在曠野把你的列祖不認識的嗎哪賜給你吃，是要使你受苦，要試煉你，使你終久得到福樂；

他說：“拿些麵給我。”他把麵放在鍋中，說：“倒出來給眾人吃吧。”鍋裡就沒有毒了。

摩西向耶和華呼求，說：“我要怎樣對待這人民呢？他們幾乎要用石頭打死我了。”

他就出去到水源那裡，把鹽倒在那裡，然後說：“耶和華這樣說：‘我已經醫好了這水，從此不再有人死亡，地也不再沒有出產了。’”

在他的祭司中有摩西和亞倫，在求告他名的人中有撒母耳；他們求告耶和華，他就應允他們。

你不可聽從那先知或作夢的人的話；因為耶和華你們的神試驗你們，要知道你們是不是一心一意愛耶和華你們的神。

因為十字架的道理，對走向滅亡的人來說是愚笨的，但對我們這些得救的人，卻是神的大能。

眾民對約書亞說：“不，我們必定事奉耶和華。”約書亞對眾民說：“你們選擇了耶和華，要事奉他，你們為自己作證吧。”他們說：“我們願意作證。”約書亞說：“現在你們要除掉在你們中間外族人的神，一心歸向耶和華以色列的神。”眾民對約書亞說：“我們必事奉耶和華我們的神，必聽從他的話。”那一天，約書亞就與眾民立約，在示劍為他們訂立律例和典章。

耶和華對我說：“即使摩西和撒母耳站在我面前代求，我的心也不會轉向這人民。你把他們從我面前趕走，叫他們出去！

你在患難中呼求，我就搭救你；我在打雷的密雲中回答你，在米利巴的水邊試驗你。”（細拉）

因此，萬軍之耶和華這樣說：“看哪！我要熬煉他們，試驗他們；因我子民（“我子民”原文作“我子民的女子”）的罪惡，我還可以作甚麼呢？

他求告我，我必應允他；他在患難中，我必與他同在；我必拯救他，使他得尊榮。

因此，你們要喜樂。然而，你們現今在各種試煉中或許暫時會難過，是要叫你們的信心經過試驗，就比那被火煉過，仍會朽壞的金子更寶貴，可以在耶穌基督顯現的時候，得著稱讚、榮耀和尊貴。

用鍋煉銀，用爐煉金；唯有耶和華鍛煉人心。

在患難的日子，你呼求我。我必搭救你，你也必尊敬我。”
