They made their lives bitter with harsh labor in brick and mortar and with all kinds of work in the fields; in all their harsh labor the Egyptians worked them ruthlessly.

昔我祖往伊及、我儕居彼日久、伊及人虐待我祖及我儕、

歷年既久、伊及王卒、以色列人因服役甚苦、太息號呼、因服役呼籲、籲聲上達於天主、

詭謀我族、困苦我祖、使棄其男孩、不許存活、

主云、彼時我使爾肩不再負擔、使爾手不再攜筐、

我民在伊及、我見其困苦、聞其歎息、故我降臨以救之、今爾來、我遣爾往伊及、

釋兇暴之繩、解欺壓之索、釋受虐者、折一切壓人之軛、如是之禁食、始為我所悅、

此民作磚、爾勿如昔給之禾稈、使往自斂、仍令按前數作磚、不可減少、其人怠惰、故號呼曰、容我往祭我之天主、當加增其工、俾之操作、使不復聽信虛浮之言、督民之役者、及其諸有司出、諭民曰、法老如是云、我不復給爾禾稈、爾往隨所見自尋禾稈、而工毋少減、於是民散往伊及遍地、尋草芥以代禾稈、督役者促之曰、一日當竣一日之工、與昔有禾稈無異、法老所設之督役者、撻所立以色列人之有司曰、昨與今日爾所作之磚、胡不滿其數如昔日乎、以色列有司至法老前呼曰、何待僕等若此、不以禾稈給僕、又命僕如數作磚、今僕見撻、是乃使王之民受罪、法老曰、爾惰矣、爾惰矣、故云、容我往祭耶和華、今爾往仍當操作、禾稈不給爾、磚必如數交納、以色列有司聞言、每日必如數交磚、不許減少、自知禍及乎己、離法老出、適見摩西亞倫、對之而立、告之曰、爾使我見惡於法老及其群臣之前、以刃授其手殺我、願主鑒察而伸我冤、

必授於虐遇爾者之手、彼曾謂爾曰、爾屈伏爾躬、任我儕由其上踰越而行、遂使爾背若塵土、若通衢、任人往來、

拿俄米謂之曰、勿稱我拿俄米、拿俄米譯即樂之義當稱我瑪拉、瑪拉譯即苦之義蓋全能者使我多歷艱苦也、

遺於子孫、永遠為業、歷代為奴婢、惟以色列人皆為兄弟、若彼此服役、毋服之過嚴、

我乃耶和華爾之天主、曾導爾出伊及爾為奴之地、

伊及人惡待我儕、虐遇我儕、以苦役逼勒我儕、

主曰、今我民無故被擄、轄之者、喜樂陶陶、我名終日恆被褻瀆、我在此徒處何為、

主諭亞伯蘭曰、爾當知爾後裔必旅於異邦、異邦人役之苦之、歷四百年、

逞怒擊萬民不息、發忿轄列邦、逼迫不止者、主已折之、

爾曹安居境內、有如鴿然、翅似白銀、翎若黃金、

爾將被困、當汲水以備所飲、固爾保障、和泥造磚、和泥造磚或作以土和泥原文作入泥踐土修葺磚窰、

萬有之主如是云、以色列人與猶大人、同受凌虐、擄之者強留之、不肯釋之、贖之者具有全能、名為萬有之主、必伸其冤、賜平康於其地、使巴比倫居民戰慄、

彼在主家、視如歲僱之傭人、毋容外人於爾目前治之過嚴、

毋役之過嚴、當敬畏爾天主、

主曾選爾、導爾出自冶爐、即伊及地、俾爾為其子民、有如今日之事、

食我民之肉、剝其皮、折其骨、斷之為塊、若欲投之於鍋、若肉在釜中、斷之為塊若欲投之於鍋若肉在釜中或作以骨分斷如鍋中之骨以肉分切如釜中之肉

嚴督以色列人作苦役、
