過了多年，埃及王死了。以色列人受盡奴役，就哀歎呼求，聲音傳到上帝那裡。

他用毒計苦害我們的同胞，虐待我們的祖先，強令他們把嬰孩拋棄，不讓嬰孩存活。

「我卸下了你肩上的重擔，使你的雙手不再做苦工，

我已清楚看見我子民在埃及所受的苦難，也聽見了他們的哀歎，我下來要救他們。你來，我要派你回埃及。』

「『我要的禁食是，除去罪惡的鎖鏈，解開軛上的繩索，折斷一切的軛，使受欺壓的人得到自由，

「從今天開始，不許再供應草給他們製磚，叫他們自己去撿，但上交的磚的數量要和往常一樣，一塊也不可少。因為他們懶惰，所以才嚷著要去給他們的上帝獻祭。你們要加重他們的工作，他們就無暇再聽那些蠱惑人心的話了！」於是，那些監工和工頭就出來向百姓宣佈：「法老下令不再供應草給你們製磚。你們要自己設法去找，但上交的磚一塊也不能少。」百姓只好在埃及全國收集碎禾稭當草用。監工催逼他們說：「你們要完成每天規定的數目，像從前有草時一樣。」他們又鞭打以色列人的工頭，說：「你們這兩天為什麼沒有像從前一樣完成規定的磚數？」以色列人的工頭來見法老，向他哀求說：「你為什麼要這樣對待僕人們？監工不給僕人們草，卻命令我們做磚，還打我們，其實是你百姓的錯。」法老說：「你們是懶惰的人，懶惰的人！所以才嚷著要去給耶和華獻祭。回去繼續工作！我不再供應草給你們，但磚要如數交齊。」以色列人的工頭聽見每天做的磚數不可減少，就知道情況不妙。他們從法老那裡出來的時候，遇見摩西和亞倫站在外面等候，便埋怨二人說：「願耶和華鑒察、懲罰你們！你們使我們在法老和他的臣僕面前有了臭名，使他們有藉口來殺我們。」

我必把這杯給苦待你的人，他們曾對你說，『趴下，我們好從你身上走過。』你曾把你的背當作地面，當作街道任人踐踏。」

拿俄米對她們說：「不要再叫我拿俄米了，叫我瑪拉吧！因為全能者叫我過得好苦啊！

你們可以將他們作為產業傳給你們的子孫，使他們終身做奴隸。但你們不可苛待自己的同胞。

「我是你的上帝耶和華，曾把你領出埃及，使你不再受奴役。

埃及人苦待我們，壓迫我們，強迫我們做奴隸。

耶和華說：「我這裡還有什麼呢？我的子民白白地被擄去，轄制他們的人咆哮大叫，我的名整天被褻瀆。

耶和華對他說：「你要清楚知道，你的後裔必流落異鄉，被奴役、虐待四百年。

他曾狂怒地攻伐列邦，無休無止，怒氣沖沖地征服列國，大肆迫害。

即使羊圈裡的看羊人也披金戴銀，就像鴿子鍍銀的翅膀和金光閃閃的羽毛。

你要蓄水以防圍困，要加強防禦！要走進土坑踩泥，拿起磚模造磚！

萬軍之耶和華說：「以色列人和猶大人要一同受壓迫，擄走他們的人必控制他們，不肯釋放他們。但他們的救贖主——萬軍之耶和華有偉大的能力，祂必為他們伸冤，使他們的家園安寧，使巴比倫的居民不得安寧。」

買主要待他如按年雇傭的工人。你們要確保買主不會苛待他。

你們也不可苛待他們，要敬畏你們的上帝。

耶和華拯救你們脫離埃及那座熔鐵爐，讓你們做祂自己的子民，正如今日的情形。

你們吃我百姓的肉，剝我百姓的皮，打碎他們的骨頭，把他們切成塊，如同下在鍋裡、放進釜中的肉。

於是，埃及人更殘酷地奴役他們，
