諭旨上說，王准許各城的猶太人在十二月，即亞達月十三日，聚集起來自衛，剷除、殺光、滅盡各族各省攻擊他們的仇敵及其兒女、妻子，奪取仇敵的財物。

我要終日向人述說你的公義，因為那些想害我的人已經蒙羞受辱。

願我的仇敵在羞辱中滅亡，願那些害我的人抱愧蒙羞。

列國啊，你們必被打垮、擊潰！遠方的人啊，你們要聽！整裝備戰吧，但你們必被擊垮！整裝備戰吧，但你們必被擊垮！

他們就出發了，上帝使恐懼籠罩周圍的城邑，沒有人敢追趕他們。

這十人是猶太人的仇敵哈曼的兒子、哈米大他的孫子。但猶太人沒有動他們的財物。

「我知道耶和華已經把這地方賜給你們，我們十分害怕。這裡所有的居民都嚇得膽戰心驚。

原來耶和華使他們心裡剛硬，跟以色列人作戰，好讓他們遭受無情的毀滅，正如耶和華對摩西的吩咐。

你所到之處，我必使那裡的人惶恐不安，使你一切的仇敵都在你面前轉身逃跑。

亞達月十四日，書珊城的猶太人再次聚集起來，在城中殺了三百人，但沒有動他們的財物。王其他各省的猶太人也都聚集起來自衛，得以脫離仇敵。他們殺了七萬五千個仇敵，但沒有動他們的財物。這事發生在亞達月十三日。十四日，猶太人休息，並以此日為設宴歡慶的日子。但書珊城的猶太人在十三、十四日聚集殺敵，十五日才休息，並以此日為設宴歡慶的日子。

希實本王西宏卻拒絕我們的請求，因為我們的上帝耶和華使他頑固不化，好讓我們擊敗他，正如今日的情形。
