In every province and in every city to which the edict of the king came, there was joy and gladness among the Jews, with feasting and celebrating. And many people of other nationalities became Jews because fear of the Jews had seized them.

They celebrated and enjoyed good food. They were glad and full of joy. That was true everywhere the king’s order came. It was true in every territory and every city. Many people from other nations announced that they had become Jews. That’s because they were so afraid of the Jews.

And in every province and in every city, wherever the king’s command and his edict reached, there was gladness and joy among the Jews, a feast and a holiday. And many from the peoples of the country declared themselves Jews, for fear of the Jews had fallen on them.

In every province and city, wherever the king’s decree arrived, the Jews rejoiced and had a great celebration and declared a public festival and holiday. And many of the people of the land became Jews themselves, for they feared what the Jews might do to them.

In every province and every city where the king’s command and edict reached, gladness and joy took place among the Jews. There was a celebration and a holiday. And many of the ethnic groups of the land professed themselves to be Jews because fear of the Jews had overcome them.

因此鄉村的猶大人，就是住在沒有城牆的村鎮的，都以亞達月十四日為歡樂飲宴的吉日，互送禮物。

必沒有一人能在你們面前站立得住；耶和華你們的神，必照著他對你們所說的，使害怕和驚懼你們的心臨到你們將要踏足之地的居民。

你可以問問你的僕人，他們必會告訴你。願我派來的這些僕人在你眼前蒙恩，因為我們是在好日子來的，請你把手中所有的，隨便賞賜一點給你的僕人和你的兒子大衛。’”

以這月的兩日，為猶大人脫離仇敵，得享安寧的日子，是轉憂為喜，轉哀為樂的吉日，叫他們在這兩日飲宴歡樂，大家互贈禮物，也賙濟窮人。

就在今天，我要使天下萬民聽見你的消息都驚慌懼怕，而且因你的緣故發抖疼痛。’

恐懼戰兢臨到他們身上；因著你大能的手臂，他們像石頭一樣寂然不動；直到你的人民過去，耶和華啊，直到你買贖的人民過去。

他們出發了，神使周圍的城市都非常懼怕，他們就不追趕雅各的兒子。

“萬軍之耶和華這樣說：‘將來還有萬族的人和多個城市的居民要來。一城的居民到另一城去，對他們說：我們快去懇求耶和華施恩，求告萬軍之耶和華；我自己也去。必有很多的民族和強大的國家前來，在耶路撒冷求告萬軍之耶和華，懇求他施恩。’“萬軍之耶和華這樣說：‘在那些日子，必有十個說不同方言，來自列國的人，緊抓住一個猶大人的衣襟，說：讓我們與你們同去吧，因為我們聽見神與你們同在。’”

猶大人就立了定例，承諾他們自己和他們的後裔，以及所有與他們聯合的人，每年都要按著所寫的和指定的兩日守這節日，永不可廢止。

猶大人在亞哈隨魯王各省的城裡聚集起來，要下手攻擊那些想謀害他們的人；沒有人能抵擋他們，因為各族的人都懼怕他們。

尼希米又對他們說：“你們應當去吃肥美的肉，喝甘甜的酒，把部分飲食分給沒有能力預備的人，因為今天是我們的主的聖日；你們不要憂愁，因為靠耶和華而得的喜樂是你們的力量。”

你救我脫離了人民的爭競，你立我作列國的元首；我不認識的人民要服事我。

這是在亞達月十三日的事，十四日他們得享安寧，以這日為設宴歡樂的日子。
