我又转念：见日光之下，快跑的未必能赢；力战的未必得胜；智慧的未必得粮食；明哲的未必得资财；灵巧的未必得喜悦。所临到众人的是在乎当时的机会。

我转而回顾日光之下，快跑的未必能赢，强壮的未必战胜，智慧的未必得粮食，聪明的未必得财富，有学问的未必得人喜悦，全在乎各人遇上的时候和机会。

我轉眼又看到日光之下：快跑的未必賽贏，勇士未必戰勝，有智慧的未必得糧食，有悟性的未必得財富，明智者未必得恩惠；因為時機和機遇勝過一切。

我轉觀日下、疾趨者未必先至、力戰者未必獲勝、智者未必得食、達者未必得財、有技能者未必蒙恩寵、凡事皆由時勢而成、

我又遍覽天下事、疾趨未必先至、勁旅未必獲捷、有智未必得餱糧、聰明未必得貨財、機巧未必沐恩寵、凡百之事、悉由偶然而至。

我又觀日下之事、見疾趨者未必先至、有力者未必得勝、智者未必得食、哲者未必得財、有識者未必蒙恩、凡眾所遇、或隨時會、或屬偶然、

I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all.

Here’s something else I’ve seen on this earth. Races aren’t always won by those who run fast. Battles aren’t always won by those who are strong. Wise people don’t always have plenty of food. Clever people aren’t always wealthy. Those who have learned a lot aren’t always successful. God controls the timing of every event. He also controls how things turn out.

Again I saw that under the sun the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to the intelligent, nor favor to those with knowledge, but time and chance happen to them all.

I have observed something else under the sun. The fastest runner doesn’t always win the race, and the strongest warrior doesn’t always win the battle. The wise sometimes go hungry, and the skillful are not necessarily wealthy. And those who are educated don’t always lead successful lives. It is all decided by chance, by being in the right place at the right time.

Again I saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift, or the battle to the strong, or bread to the wise, or riches to the discerning, or favor to the skillful; rather, time and chance happen to all of them.

Again, I observed this on the earth: the race is not always won by the swiftest, the battle is not always won by the strongest; prosperity does not always belong to those who are the wisest, wealth does not always belong to those who are the most discerning, nor does success always come to those with the most knowledge– for time and chance may overcome them all.

耶和华说：“智者不要夸耀自己的智慧，勇士不要夸耀自己的力量，富人不要夸耀自己的财富。

任何智慧、悟性和谋略，都不能对抗耶和华。马为争战之日预备，胜败由耶和华决定。

若非主许可，谁的话可以兑现呢？祸福岂不都出自至高者的口吗？

祂提拔卑微的人，庇护哀痛的人。祂挫败狡猾人的阴谋，使他们无法得逞。祂使智者中了自己的诡计，使奸徒的计谋迅速落空。他们白天遇到黑暗，午间摸索如在夜晚。

快捷的无法逃遁，强壮的无力可施，勇猛的救不了自己，拉弓的站立不住，腿快的无法逃脱，骑马的救不了自己。到那日，最勇猛的战士也要丢盔弃甲，仓皇逃命。这是耶和华说的。

我心里想：“不论义人或恶人，上帝必审判，因为万事万务都有受审之时。”

他说：“全体犹大人、耶路撒冷的居民和约沙法王啊，你们要留心听！耶和华对你们如此说，‘你们不要因敌军强大而恐惧惊慌，因为战争的胜败不在乎你们，而在乎上帝。

我知道，上帝所做的都会存到永远，谁也不能增减。祂这样安排是叫人敬畏祂。

善跑者跑不掉，强壮者逃不了，他们扑倒在北面的幼发拉底河边。

君王不能靠兵多取胜，勇士不能凭力大获救。靠战马取胜实属妄想，马虽力大也不能救人。

耶和华所喜悦的不是强健的马匹，也不是矫捷的战士，而是敬畏祂、仰望祂慈爱的人。

智者高瞻远瞩，愚人却在黑暗中摸索。但我知道两者终必有同样的命运。于是，我想：“既然愚人的命运也将是我的命运，我有智慧又怎么样呢？我只能说，‘这也是虚空。’”

我又看见人的一切劳碌和成就原是出于争强好胜。这也是虚空，如同捕风。

亚希多弗见自己的提议不被接纳，便备上驴，启程回乡，安顿好家事以后，就自缢身亡了。他被安葬在他父亲的墓穴里。

押沙龙和以色列众人都说：“亚基人户筛的主意比亚希多弗的好！”其实是耶和华决定破坏亚希多弗的巧计，好把灾祸降在押沙龙身上。

于是，我又观察日光之下的一切欺压之事。我看见受欺压的泪流满面，无人安慰。因为欺压者有权有势，所以无人安慰他们。

于是，我转念思考什么是智慧、狂妄和愚昧。其实以后接替君王的人除了重演历史之外，还能做什么呢？

不要再骄横傲慢、口出狂言，因为耶和华鉴察万事，祂会按着人的行为施行审判。勇士的弓被折断，软弱的变为刚强。素来丰衣足食的为糊口而当雇工，本来食不果腹的却不再挨饿。不育的妇人现在生了七个孩子，儿女成群的妇人却子女尽失。耶和华掌管生死，祂使人进入坟墓，也使人起死回生。贫穷富足在于祂，卑微高贵也在于祂。祂从灰尘中提拔穷苦的人，从粪堆里擢升贫贱的人，使他们与王子同坐，得享尊荣。大地的根基属于耶和华，祂在上面建立了世界。祂保护祂的圣民，使恶人在黑暗中灭亡，因为得胜不是靠人的勇力。跟耶和华对抗的人必被击溃，祂必从天上用雷击打他。祂必审判天下，赐力量给祂所立的君王，使祂所膏立的人大有权柄。”

我们也在基督里被拣选成为祂的子民。这都是按自己旨意行万事的上帝预先定下的计划，

他们把骄傲作项链戴在颈上，把暴力作外袍裹在身上。他们胖得眼睛凸出，心中充满罪恶。

要记住，是你们的上帝耶和华赐给你们致富的能力，为要坚立祂给你们祖先的誓约，正如今日的情形。

你应当思想上帝的作为，因为上帝弄弯的，谁能使它变直呢？

那时，你们将再度看出义人与恶人之间的区别，事奉上帝者和不事奉上帝者之间的不同。

但祂若保持缄默，谁能定祂有罪？祂若掩起脸来，谁能看得见祂？个人和国家都靠祂垂顾，

世人都微不足道，祂在天军和世人中独行其道，无人能拦阻祂的手，或质问祂的作为。

当时，洗鲁雅的三个儿子约押、亚比筛和亚撒黑都在场。亚撒黑跑得飞快如鹿，他跟在押尼珥后面，不偏不离，穷追不舍。押尼珥回头问道：“你是亚撒黑吗？”亚撒黑说：“正是。”押尼珥说：“你去追赶别人，夺取他的兵器吧。”但亚撒黑还是穷追不舍。押尼珥又对他说：“快走开吧，非逼我杀你吗？我若杀了你，还有何颜面见你哥哥约押呢？”但亚撒黑还是不肯罢休。押尼珥就用枪柄刺入他的肚腹，穿透了他的后背，他便倒地身亡。众人赶到那里，都停了下来。

大卫就这样不用刀剑，只用投石器和一块石子战胜了那个非利士人，杀死了他。
