while I was still searching but not finding— I found one upright man among a thousand, but not one upright woman among them all.

I searched and searched but found very little. I did find one honest man among a thousand. But I didn’t find one honest woman among a thousand.

which my soul has sought repeatedly, but I have not found. One man among a thousand I found, but a woman among all these I have not found.

Though I have searched repeatedly, I have not found what I was looking for. Only one out of a thousand men is virtuous, but not one woman!

若有一位使者伺候着他，若千位中有一位傳話者，將人該行的正當事指示他，

所羅門王愛上了許多外籍女子：像法老的女兒、摩押女子、亞捫女子、以東女子、西頓女子、赫人女子等。關於這些國的人、永恆主曾經對以色列人說：『你們不可去在他們中間，他們也不可來在你們中間：因為他們的確會使你們的心偏離、去隨從他們的神』；但所羅門卻戀慕着這些女子、而愛了她們。所羅門有七百個后妃、公主；還有三百個嬪妃；他的妻妾使他的心偏離了。

永恆主啊，求你拯救，因為堅貞之愛斷絕了，人類間的忠信都不見了。

夜間我心中羨慕你；早晨我的靈迫切地尋求你；因為你的公平幾時在地上；世界的居民幾時就學習着公義。

這一切我都用智慧試驗過；我說：『我可有智慧了』；事實上還差得遠呢。現在的事實離我很遠，又很深，真深！誰能查得出呢？
