A man might have a hundred children. He might live a long time. But suppose he can’t enjoy his wealth. And suppose he isn’t buried in the proper way. Then it doesn’t matter how long he lives. I’m telling you that a baby that is born dead is better off than that man is.

人若生一百个儿子，活许多岁数，以致他的年日甚多，心里却不得满享福乐，又不得埋葬；据我说，那不到期而落的胎比他倒好。

人若生一百个儿子，活许多岁数；他即使寿命很长，心里却不因福乐而满足，又不得埋葬；我说，那流掉的胎比他倒好。

人苟生百子、享壽高、歷年久、而心不得享福、身不獲安葬、我謂未盈期而生者、較彼尤愈、

人有百子、又獲遐齡、生不能享福、死不得善葬、以我觀之、胎未成人者、較彼愈美。

設人生百子、又享遐齡、在世之年日甚多、而不得享所有以為福、死後亦不得安葬、以我觀之、以我觀之原文作我則曰胎死者較彼尤美、

Why wasn’t I buried like a baby who was born dead? Why wasn’t I buried like a child who never saw the light of day?

But someone who hasn’t been born yet is better off than the dead or the living. That’s because that person hasn’t seen the evil things that are done on earth.

In fact, he will be buried like a donkey. His body will be dragged away and thrown outside the gates of Jerusalem.”

So they went out to bury her. But all they found was her head, feet and hands.

Jacob said to Pharaoh,“ The years of my journey through life are 130. My years have been few and hard. They aren’t as many as the years of my father and grandfather before me.”

But you have been thrown out of your tomb. You are like a branch that is cut off and thrown away. You are covered with the bodies of those who have been killed by swords. You have been tossed into a stony pit along with them. You are like a dead body that people have walked on.You won’t be buried like other kings. That’s because you have destroyed your land. You have killed your people.“ Let the children of that evil man be killed. Let none of them be left to carry on the family name.

Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife. He would say,“ May the Lord give you children by this woman. May they take the place of the boy she prayed for and gave to the Lord.” Then they would go home.The Lord was gracious to Hannah. Over a period of years she had three more sons and two daughters. During that whole time the boy Samuel grew up serving the Lord.

They will lie outside under the sun, moon and all the stars. All these people had loved and served these things. They had followed them and worshiped them. They had asked them for advice. So the bones of these people will not be gathered up or buried again. Instead, they will be like human waste lying there on the ground.

Ahab’s royal family in the city of Samaria had a total of 70 sons. Jehu wrote some letters to the officials of the city. He also sent them to the elders there. And he sent them to the people who took care of Ahab’s children. Jehu said,

Rehoboam loved Absalom’s daughter Maakah. In fact, he loved her more than any of his other wives and concubines. He had a total of 18 wives and 60 concubines. And he had a total of 28 sons and 60 daughters.

The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But how terrible it will be for the one who hands over the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.”

All their lives they eat in darkness. Their lives are full of trouble, suffering and anger.I have seen what is good. It is good for a person to eat and drink. It’s good for them to be satisfied with their hard work on this earth. That’s what they should do during the short life God has given them. That’s what God made them for.Sometimes God gives a person wealth and possessions. God makes it possible for that person to enjoy them. God helps them accept the life he has given them. God helps them to be happy in their work. All these things are gifts from God.

Let them be like a slug that melts away as it moves along. Let them be like a baby that is born dead and never sees the sun.

So they did. And they used the pole Haman had prepared for Mordecai. Then the king’s anger calmed down.

So now the Lord has something to say about Jehoiakim, the king of Judah. He says,“ No one from Jehoiakim’s family line will sit on David’s throne. Jehoiakim’s body will be thrown out. It will lie outside in the heat by day and in the frost at night.

The Lord has given me many sons. From all of them he has chosen my son Solomon. He wants Solomon to sit on the throne of the Lord’ s kingdom. He wants him to rule over Israel.

Children who are born to people when they are young are like arrows in the hands of a soldier.Blessed are those who have many children. They won’t be put to shame when they go up against their enemies in court.

Grandchildren are like a crown to older people. And children are proud of their parents.

He bragged to them about how rich he was. He talked about how many sons he had. He spoke about all the ways the king had honored him. He bragged about how the king had given him a high position. It was higher than the position of any of the other nobles and officials.
