For who knows what is good for a person in life, during the few and meaningless days they pass through like a shadow? Who can tell them what will happen under the sun after they are gone?

但明日如何、爾不知也、爾生命伊何、猶雲霧耳、暫見而即無矣、

其出如花、而遭翦伐、如影之馳、不得停留、

我心自謂、耶和華為我業、我必望之兮、凡仰而求耶和華者、耶和華施之恩兮、仰望耶和華之拯救、而靜俟之、斯為美兮、人於幼年負軛、亦為美兮、

我見世人樂於其操作、無愈於此、蓋斯為其值、身後之事、孰能使之反見哉、

惟彼惡者、不獲福祉、不享遐齡、其日如影、以其不畏上帝也、

世人如氣息、其日如影迅逝兮、

爾使我之年歲、數掌可量、我之壽算、在於爾前、若無有兮、世人穩立時、亦皆虛空兮、世人行動乃虛幻、擾攘乃徒勞、積蓄貨財、不知誰取兮、

未來之事、彼不之知、其事之終、孰能告之、

我之年數、乃為七旬、如其強健、可至八旬、然其所誇、祇為憂苦、其逝迅速、我去如飛兮、孰識爾怒之勢、孰依畏爾之道、而知爾忿乎、求爾教我計己之日、俾獲慧心兮、

若我、則必以義見爾面、寤時睹爾容、心願滿足兮、

願爾垂念、我之時日、何其短促、爾造世人、使之何其虛幻兮、

我日如晷延長、我躬如草枯槁兮、○

人乎、耶和華已示爾何者為善、彼所求於爾者、非惟行公義、好仁慈、謙卑與爾上帝偕行乎、○

所好所惡所妒嫉、早已消亡、彼於日下所經營、永不與焉、○

我儕在爾前、為遠人、為羈旅、同於列祖、在世之日如影、無永存之希望、

我之逝也、如日影沈西、如蝗蟲飄蕩兮、

多曰有誰福我、耶和華歟、以爾容光照予兮、

其子尊榮、彼不之知、降為卑賤、亦不之覺、

事之要義、尚其聽之、寅畏上帝、守其誡命、此乃人所當行、

為我擇業、即雅各之榮、雅各乃其所悅兮、

我心思維、酌酒以快我身、而心仍為智慧所導、又思持守愚拙、知天下人畢生所行、孰為美善、

耶和華為我業我杯、所得之產、爾為我守之兮、
