有人獨處無子、無兄弟、然亦勞碌不已、雖得多財、目中不以為足、亦不自問曰、我不自享所得、我勞碌究為誰耶、此亦屬於虛、徒勞無益、

There was a man all alone; he had neither son nor brother. There was no end to his toil, yet his eyes were not content with his wealth.“ For whom am I toiling,” he asked,“ and why am I depriving myself of enjoyment?” This too is meaningless— a miserable business!

A man lived all by himself. He didn’t have any sons or brothers. His hard work never ended. But he wasn’t happy with what he had.“ Who am I working so hard for?” he asked.“ Why don’t I get the things I enjoy?” That doesn’t have any meaning either. In fact, it’s a very bad deal!

This is the case of a man who is all alone, without a child or a brother, yet who works hard to gain as much wealth as he can. But then he asks himself,“ Who am I working for? Why am I giving up so much pleasure now?” It is all so meaningless and depressing.

Sheol and Abaddon are never satisfied, and people’s eyes are never satisfied.

For everything that belongs to the world— the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride in one’s lifestyle— is not from the Father, but is from the world.

All things are wearisome; man is unable to speak. The eye is not satisfied by seeing or the ear filled with hearing.

I applied my mind to seek and explore through wisdom all that is done under heaven. God has given people this miserable task to keep them occupied.

“ But God said to him,‘ You fool! This very night your life is demanded of you. And the things you have prepared— whose will they be?’

Two are better than one because they have a good reward for their efforts.For if either falls, his companion can lift him up; but pity the one who falls without another to lift him up.Also, if two lie down together, they can keep warm; but how can one person alone keep warm?And if someone overpowers one person, two can resist him. A cord of three strands is not easily broken.

Woe to those who add house to house and join field to field until there is no more room and you alone are left in the land.

“ Certainly, man walks about like a mere shadow. Indeed, they frantically rush around in vain, gathering possessions without knowing who will get them.

The one who loves money is never satisfied with money, and whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with income. This too is futile.

Then the Lord God said,“ It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper as his complement.”

Why do you spend money on what is not food, and your wages on what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, and you will enjoy the choicest of foods.

But Abram said,“ Lord God, what can You give me, since I am childless and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?”Abram continued,“ Look, You have given me no offspring, so a slave born in my house will be my heir.”

For all his days are filled with grief, and his occupation is sorrowful; even at night, his mind does not rest. This too is futile.

“ Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

No one reflects, no one has the perception or insight to say,“ I burned half of it in the fire, I also baked bread on its coals, I roasted meat and ate. I will make something detestable with the rest of it, and I will bow down to a block of wood.”He feeds on ashes. His deceived mind has led him astray, and he cannot deliver himself, or say,“ Isn’t there a lie in my right hand?”

No foreigner who has joined himself to the Lord should say,“ The Lord will exclude me from His people”; and the eunuch should not say,“ Look, I am a dried-up tree.”For the Lord says this:“ For the eunuchs who keep My Sabbaths, and choose what pleases Me, and hold firmly to My covenant,I will give them, in My house and within My walls, a memorial and a name better than sons and daughters. I will give each of them an everlasting name that will never be cut off.

Moreover, wine betrays; an arrogant man is never at rest. He enlarges his appetite like Sheol, and like Death he is never satisfied. He gathers all the nations to himself; he collects all the peoples for himself.Won’t all of these take up a taunt against him, with mockery and riddles about him? They will say: Woe to him who amasses what is not his— how much longer?— and loads himself with goods taken in pledge.Won’t your creditors suddenly arise, and those who disturb you wake up? Then you will become spoil for them.Since you have plundered many nations, all the peoples who remain will plunder you— because of human bloodshed and violence against lands, cities, and all who live in them.Woe to him who dishonestly makes wealth for his house to place his nest on high, to escape from the reach of disaster!
