Or why the breasts, that I should nurse?For then I would have lain down and been quiet; I would have slept; then I would have been at rest,with kings and counselors of the earth who rebuilt ruins for themselves,or with princes who had gold, who filled their houses with silver.Or why was I not as a hidden stillborn child, as infants who never see the light?

who rejoice exceedingly and are glad when they find the grave?

“ Why did you bring me out from the womb? Would that I had died before any eye had seen meand were as though I had not been, carried from the womb to the grave.

I have seen everything that is done under the sun, and behold, all is vanity and a striving after wind.

And I say,“ Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest;yes, I would wander far away; I would lodge in the wilderness; SelahI would hurry to find a shelter from the raging wind and tempest.”Destroy, O Lord, divide their tongues; for I see violence and strife in the city.Day and night they go around it on its walls, and iniquity and trouble are within it;ruin is in its midst; oppression and fraud do not depart from its marketplace.

Oh that I had in the desert a travelers’ lodging place, that I might leave my people and go away from them! For they are all adulterers, a company of treacherous men.They bend their tongue like a bow; falsehood and not truth has grown strong in the land; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they do not know me, declares the Lord.

So I hated life, because what is done under the sun was grievous to me, for all is vanity and a striving after wind.

because he did not kill me in the womb; so my mother would have been my grave, and her womb forever great.Why did I come out from the womb to see toil and sorrow, and spend my days in shame?
