因為人和獸的際遇並無分別，兩者都難逃一死，活著都靠一口氣。人並不比獸強，一切都是虛空。

因为世人遭遇的，兽也遭遇，所遭遇的都是一样：这个怎样死，那个也怎样死，气息都是一样。人不能强于兽，都是虚空。

因为世人遭遇的，走兽也遭遇，所遭遇的都一样：这个怎样死，那个也怎样死，他们都有一样的气息。人不能强于走兽，全是虚空；

人所遇者、獸亦遇之、人與獸所遇惟一、此之死猶彼之死、同一氣之呼吸、人無所愈於獸、悉屬虛空、

世人禽獸、同一氣之呼吸、其必死無以異也、則人不遠於禽獸、而萬事悉歸諸虛矣。

人命獸命俱同、原文作人之所遇無異獸之所遇人與獸所遇惟一死亦彼此無異、皆恃呼吸之氣、如此、人無所勝於獸、皆屬於虛、

Surely the fate of human beings is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: As one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath; humans have no advantage over animals. Everything is meaningless.

Surely what happens to animals happens to people too. Death waits for people and animals alike. People die, just as animals do. All of them have the same breath. People don’t have any advantage over animals. Nothing has any meaning.

For what happens to the children of man and what happens to the beasts is the same; as one dies, so dies the other. They all have the same breath, and man has no advantage over the beasts, for all is vanity.

For people and animals share the same fate— both breathe and both must die. So people have no real advantage over the animals. How meaningless!

因為智者和愚人一樣，不過被人記得一時，日後都會被遺忘。兩者都難逃死亡。

你使我的生命轉瞬即逝，我的歲月在你眼中不到片刻。人的生命不過是一絲氣息，（細拉）人生不過是幻影，勞碌奔波卻一場空，積蓄財富卻不知誰來享用。

願你顧念我的生命何其短暫！你創造的世人何其虛幻！誰能長生不死？誰能救自己脫離死亡的權勢呢？（細拉）

但人一死，就失去力量；人一嚥氣，就不知去向。湖水會枯竭，江河會乾涸，人躺下便不再起來，到諸天不復存在，他仍不會醒來，不會從長眠中被喚醒。

你若對牠們棄而不顧，牠們會驚慌失措。你一收回牠們的氣息，牠們便死亡，歸於塵土。

因此，我對自己在日光之下一切的勞碌感到絕望。一個人用智慧、知識和技能所得來的一切，卻要留給不勞而獲的人享用，這也是虛空，是極大的不幸！世人在日光之下勞心勞力，究竟得到什麼呢？他們一生充滿痛苦，勞碌中盡是愁煩，即使夜間心裡也不安寧。這也是虛空。

人都難免一死，就像覆水難收。然而，上帝不是要奪取人的性命，而是要設法使流亡的人重新回來。

無知的人不會明白，愚蠢的人也不會瞭解：惡人雖如草滋生，一時亨通，但終必永遠滅亡。

智者高瞻遠矚，愚人卻在黑暗中摸索。但我知道兩者終必有同樣的命運。
