So I loathed all the fruit of my effort, for which I worked so hard on earth, because I must leave it behind in the hands of my successor.

我恨恶自己一切的劳苦，就是我在日光之下的劳碌所为，因为我必把劳苦所得留给在我之后来的人。

我惡我於日下勞力操作、蓋所得者、必遺於我後也、

我一身勞瘁、不可為悅、蓋所經營、必遺於後起之人、

我亦自恨在日下勞碌經營、因我所得者、必遺於後我而來者用、

I hated all the things I had toiled for under the sun, because I must leave them to the one who comes after me.

I hated everything I had worked for on earth. I’ll have to leave all of it to someone who lives after me.

I hated all my toil in which I toil under the sun, seeing that I must leave it to the man who will come after me,

I came to hate all my hard work here on earth, for I must leave to others everything I have earned.

I hated all my work that I labored at under the sun because I must leave it to the one who comes after me.

So I hated all the fruit of my labor for which I had labored under the sun, because I must leave it to the man who will come after me.

Then I hated all my labor in which I had toiled under the sun, because I must leave it to the man who will come after me.

And I hated all my labor wherein I labored under the sun, seeing that I must leave it unto the man that shall be after me.

I hated all my work that I labored at under the sun because I must leave it to the man who comes after me.

Yea, I hated all my labour which I had taken under the sun: because I should leave it unto the man that shall be after me.

I hated all my labor in which I labored under the sun, because I must leave it to the man who comes after me.

Surely people go through life as mere ghosts. Surely they accumulate worthless wealth without knowing who will eventually haul it away.”

Surely one sees that even wise people die; fools and spiritually insensitive people all pass away and leave their wealth to others.

According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master- builder I laid a foundation, but someone else builds on it. And each one must be careful how he builds.

But God said to him,‘ You fool! This very night your life will be demanded back from you, but who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’

So the LORD said to Solomon,“ Because you insist on doing these things and have not kept the covenantal rules I gave you, I will surely tear the kingdom away from you and give it to your servant.However, for your father David’s sake I will not do this while you are alive. I will tear it away from your son’s hand instead.But I will not tear away the entire kingdom; I will leave your son one tribe for my servant David’s sake and for the sake of my chosen city Jerusalem.”

But better than both is the one who has not been born and has not seen the evil things that are done on earth.

I increased my possessions: I built houses for myself; I planted vineyards for myself.I designed royal gardens and parks for myself, and I planted all kinds of fruit trees in them.I constructed pools of water for myself, to irrigate my grove of flourishing trees.I purchased male and female slaves, and I owned slaves who were born in my house; I also possessed more livestock– both herds and flocks– than any of my predecessors in Jerusalem.I also amassed silver and gold for myself, as well as valuable treasures taken from kingdoms and provinces. I acquired male singers and female singers for myself, and what gives a man sensual delight– a harem of beautiful concubines!So I was far wealthier than all my predecessors in Jerusalem, yet I maintained my objectivity:

What benefit do people get from all the effort which they expend on earth?

Here is a misfortune on earth that I have seen: Wealth hoarded by its owner to his own misery.Then that wealth was lost through bad luck; although he fathered a son, he has nothing left to give him.

I know that after I am gone fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock.Even from among your own group men will arise, teaching perversions of the truth to draw the disciples away after them.

For to the one who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy, but to the sinner, he gives the task of amassing wealth– only to give it to the one who pleases God. This task of the wicked is futile– like chasing the wind!

I have seen personally what is the only beneficial and appropriate course of action for people: to eat and drink, and find enjoyment in all their hard work on earth during the few days of their life which God has given them, for this is their reward.

Enjoy life with your beloved wife during all the days of your fleeting life that God has given you on earth during all your fleeting days; for that is your reward in life and in your burdensome work on earth.

So the rich man said,‘ Then I beg you, father– send Lazarus to my father’s house( for I have five brothers) to warn them so that they don’t come into this place of torment.’

LORD, use your power to deliver me from these murderers, from the murderers of this world! They enjoy prosperity; you overwhelm them with the riches they desire. They have many children, and leave their wealth to their offspring.

I decided to carefully and thoroughly examine all that has been accomplished on earth. I concluded: God has given people a burdensome task that keeps them occupied.
