他們必不再餓，也不再渴；日頭或一切炎熱必不燒着他們；因為在寶座中的羔羊必牧養他們，領他們到生命水之泉源那裏；上帝也從他們眼上擦去一切的眼淚。』

我又看、日光之下所行的一切欺壓：看哪，受欺壓的流淚，無人安慰！欺壓他們的、手裏有勢力，也無人安慰！故此我祝賀那已死了的死人，勝過那還活着的活人；我並且以為、那未曾生的、就是那未曾經驗過日光之下所發生的壞事的、比這兩種人還好。我又看一切勞碌和各樣工作上的技巧都是人對鄰舍羨慕之表現：這也是虛空，也是捕風。

貪愛銀子的、不因得銀子而知足；貪愛財富的、不因得收入而知足；這也是虛空。財物加多，喫的人也加多；物主得了甚麼益處呢？不過是眼看着罷了。

誰使上帝喜悅，上帝就給誰智慧、知識、和喜樂；惟有罪人、上帝卻給他勞苦，叫他將所收聚所積蓄的歸給那使上帝所喜悅的人：這也是虛空，也是捕風。

饑渴慕義的人有福啊！因為他們必得飽足。

我們知道、所有被創造之物都一同歎息，同受產難，直到如今。不但如此，就是我們這些首先受聖靈做初收果子的、也是自己心裏歎息，切候着被立為子，就是我們身體之得釋放。

後來我察看我的手所作的一切事、和我勞碌去作的工；嗐！都是虛空！都是捕風！在日光之下毫無益處。

現在的事實離我很遠，又很深，真深！誰能查得出呢？我心裏轉來轉去要知道、要窺探、要尋求智慧和萬事的總和，要知道邪惡是愚頑，愚昧是狂妄。我查出一宗比死還苦的事：就是有一種婦人是網羅；她的心是網子，她的手是鎖鍊：那使上帝喜悅的人能躲避她；愛犯罪的人卻被她纏住了。

水蛭有兩個女兒叫：『給我』！『給我』！世上有三樣不知足的；乃至有四樣總不說『夠了！』的：就是陰間和石胎，浸水不足之地，不說『夠了！』的火。

我每逢在鋪蓋上懷念着你，在夜更中沉思着你，我的心總像飽足了骨髓肥油；我總以歡樂的嘴脣讚頌你；
