All things are wearisome, more than one can say. The eye never has enough of seeing, nor the ear its fill of hearing.

All things are tiresome. They are more tiresome than anyone can say. But our eyes never see enough of anything. Our ears never hear enough.

All things are full of weariness; a man cannot utter it; the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.

陰間和死亡填不滿，人的眼目永不滿足。

「所有勞苦困乏、背負重擔的人啊，到我這裡來吧！我要賜給你們安息。

有一個人孤孤單單，沒有兒子也沒有兄弟，卻終身勞碌。他雖然家道豐裕，仍不滿足，從未想過「我不停地勞碌，放棄一切享受，究竟是為了誰？」這也是虛空，是一種悲哀。

他們不會再受饑餓和乾渴的折磨，也不會再受太陽和酷熱的煎熬，因為在寶座中央的羔羊要作他們的牧人，引導他們到生命之泉那裡，上帝要擦乾他們所有的眼淚。」

於是，我又觀察日光之下的一切欺壓之事。我看見受欺壓的淚流滿面，無人安慰。因為欺壓者有權有勢，所以無人安慰他們。我為那已死的人慶幸，因為他們比活著的人幸福。不過，比以上兩種人更幸運的是那從未出生的人，他們從未見過日光之下各樣的惡行。我又看見人的一切勞碌和成就原是出於爭強好勝。這也是虛空，如同捕風。

貪愛錢財的，金銀不能使他滿足；貪圖富裕的，再多的利益也不能叫他稱心。這也是虛空！財富增加，消費的人也增加，這對財富的主人有什麼益處呢？只是過眼雲煙罷了！

上帝把智慧、知識和喜樂賜給祂喜悅的人，卻讓罪人忙於積攢財富，然後把他們的財富賜給祂喜悅的人。這也是虛空，也是捕風。

愛慕公義如饑似渴的人有福了，因為他們必得飽足。

我們知道一切受造之物至今都在呻吟，如同經歷分娩之痛。不但如此，就是我們這些首先得到聖靈的人也在心裡歎息，熱切等候得到兒子的名分，就是我們的身體得到救贖。

然而，當我回顧雙手辛勤經營的一切成就時，唉，卻發現都是虛空，都是捕風；日光之下的一切都毫無益處。

智慧如此遙不可及、深不可測，誰能找得到呢？我用心去認識、探究、追尋智慧和事物的原委，並去認識邪惡帶來的愚昧和無知帶來的狂妄。我發現有的婦人比死亡更苦毒，她是個陷阱，心如網羅，手像鎖鏈。敬畏上帝的人避開她，罪人卻被她俘虜。

水蛭有兩個女兒，她們不停地叫：「給我！給我！」三樣東西從不知足，永不言「夠」的共有四樣：陰間、不孕的婦人、乾旱的土地和火焰。

我心滿意足，如享盛宴，唱起歡快的歌讚美你。
