I feared that the furious anger of the Lord, which turned him against you, would drive him to destroy you. But again he listened to me.

I feared the anger and wrath of the Lord, for he was angry enough with you to destroy you. But again the Lord listened to me.

I was afraid of the Lord’ s great anger. He was so angry with you he wanted to destroy you. But the Lord listened to me again.

Moses and Aaron were among his priests; Samuel also called on his name. They cried to the Lord for help, and he answered them.

The Lord replied to Moses,“ I will indeed do what you have asked, for I look favorably on you, and I know you by name.”

In my vision the locusts ate every green plant in sight. Then I said,“ O Sovereign Lord, please forgive us or we will not survive, for Israel is so small.”So the Lord relented from this plan.“ I will not do it,” he said.

Hanani, one of my brothers, came to visit me with some other men who had just arrived from Judah. I asked them about the Jews who had returned there from captivity and about how things were going in Jerusalem.They said to me,“ Things are not going well for those who returned to the province of Judah. They are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem has been torn down, and the gates have been destroyed by fire.”When I heard this, I sat down and wept. In fact, for days I mourned, fasted, and prayed to the God of heaven.Then I said,“ O Lord, God of heaven, the great and awesome God who keeps his covenant of unfailing love with those who love him and obey his commands,listen to my prayer! Look down and see me praying night and day for your people Israel. I confess that we have sinned against you. Yes, even my own family and I have sinned!We have sinned terribly by not obeying the commands, decrees, and regulations that you gave us through your servant Moses.

Then I said,“ O Sovereign Lord, please stop or we will not survive, for Israel is so small.”Then the Lord relented from this plan, too.“ I will not do that either,” said the Sovereign Lord.

“ Dear friends, don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot do any more to you after that.But I’ll tell you whom to fear. Fear God, who has the power to kill you and then throw you into hell. Yes, he’s the one to fear.

So he declared he would destroy them. But Moses, his chosen one, stepped between the Lord and the people. He begged him to turn from his anger and not destroy them.

Even at Mount Sinai you made the Lord so angry he was ready to destroy you.
