He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.

He took your pride away. He let you go hungry. Then he gave you manna to eat. You and your parents had never even known anything about manna before. He tested you to teach you that man doesn’t live only on bread. He also lives on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.

And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.

Yes, he humbled you by letting you go hungry and then feeding you with manna, a food previously unknown to you and your ancestors. He did it to teach you that people do not live by bread alone; rather, we live by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.

So he humbled you by making you hungry and then feeding you with unfamiliar manna. He did this to teach you that humankind cannot live by bread alone, but also by everything that comes from the LORD’s mouth.

你們生活的風度不可貪愛銀錢；要以現有的為足；因為上帝親自說過：『我必定不放開你，必定不撇棄你』；所以我們可以放膽說：『主是援助我的，我必不懼怕；人能把我怎麼樣呢？』

然而他卻吩咐了雲際上空，敞開了天上門戶，降嗎哪像雨做他們的糧食，將天降的穀物賜給他們。人喫天使的食物；上帝送下糧食給他們喫飽。

你們別尋求喫其麼，喝甚麼了；也別掛心了。因為這一切、世上的外國人都切求着；你們的父實知道你們需用這一切的。

都喫了一樣的靈食，

你要倚靠永恆主，要行善；住在地上，安安穩穩地牧放。

他們一求，他就使鵪鶉飛來，用天上的糧食讓他們飽足。

以色列人的怨言、我已經聽見了；你要告訴他們說：「傍晚時分你們必喫肉；早晨你們必有食物喫飽，你們就知道我永恆主乃是你們的上帝。」』到了晚上、有鵪鶉飛上來，把營都遮滿了；早晨在營的四圍、滿有露水。那露水消散了以後，就見野地上、有細小鱗狀的東西、細小像白霜在地上。以色列人看見，不知道是甚麼，就彼此對問說：『這是甚麼？』摩西對他們說：『這是永恆主給你們喫的食物。永恆主所吩咐的話是這樣說：「你們各人要按着自己的食量撿；一人一俄梅珥，照你們的人數，各按自己帳棚裏的人數去拾取。」』以色列人就這樣行：有的撿得多，有的撿得少。趕到他們用俄梅珥一量，多撿的沒有餘，少撿的也沒有缺；各人按着自己的食量撿。摩西對他們說：『誰都不可把所撿的留到早晨。』有人不聽摩西的話，把所撿的留到早晨，就生蛆長蟲發臭了：摩西很惱怒他們。每天早晨他們都去撿，各人按着自己的食量撿；日光一熱，就熔化了。在第六天、他們撿了雙倍食物，每人兩俄梅珥；會眾所有的首長就來告訴摩西。摩西對他們說：『永恆主是這樣說的：「明天是完全歇息的日子，是向永恆主守的聖安息；你們要烤的就烤，要煮的就煮：凡所餘剩的要給自己存放着，留到早晨。」』他們就照摩西所吩咐的存放到早晨，居然也不發臭，裏頭也沒有蛆子。摩西說：『今天你們就喫這個吧；因為今天是事奉永恆主的安息日；今天你們在田野是找不着的了。六天你們都可以撿；但第七天是安息日，那一天必然沒有的。』第七天民間有人出去撿，真地找不着。永恆主對摩西說：『你們不肯守我的誡命和律法、要到幾時呢？你們看，永恆主將安息日賜給你們，所以第六天他賜給你們兩天的食物：第七天各人要住在自己的所在；各人都不要出自己的地方。』於是人民在第七天都休息着。這東西、以色列家給起名叫「嗎哪」，就像芫荽子，白色；它的滋味如同攙蜜的薄餅。摩西說：『永恆主所吩咐的話是這樣說：「要將一俄梅珥嗎哪留給你們的後代，讓後人可以看我當日領你們出埃及地、在曠野所給你們喫的食物。」』摩西對亞倫說：『你拿一個罐子，裏面盛着一俄梅珥嗎哪，存放在永恆主面前，好留給你們的後代。』亞倫就照永恆主所吩咐摩西的、把嗎哪存放在法櫃前留着。以色列人喫嗎哪四十年，直到進了有人居住之地；他們喫嗎哪，直到進了迦南地的邊界。

它們這些活物都仰望着你按時給牠們食物。你給了牠們，牠們便撿起來；你展開了手，牠們就飽飫美食。你掩面，牠們便惶恐；你收回牠們的氣，牠們就死亡，仍歸於塵土。
