He gave you manna to eat in the wilderness, something your ancestors had never known, to humble and test you so that in the end it might go well with you.

He gave you manna to eat in the desert. Your people had never even known anything about manna before. The Lord took your pride away. He tested you. He did it so that things would go well with you in the end.

以色列人看見，不知道是甚麼，就彼此對問說：「這是甚麼呢？」摩西對他們說：「這就是耶和華給你們吃的食物。

他苦煉你，任你飢餓，將你和你列祖所不認識的嗎哪賜給你吃，使你知道，人活着不是單靠食物，乃是靠耶和華口裏所出的一切話。

「耶和華－以色列的神如此說：被擄去的猶大人，就是我打發離開這地到迦勒底人之地去的，我必看顧他們如這好無花果，使他們得好處。我要眷顧他們，使他們得好處，領他們歸回這地。我也要建立他們，必不拆毀；栽植他們，並不拔出。

我們這至暫至輕的苦楚，要為我們成就極重無比、永遠的榮耀。

生身的父都是暫隨己意管教我們；惟有萬靈的父管教我們，是要我們得益處，使我們在他的聖潔上有分。凡管教的事，當時不覺得快樂，反覺得愁苦；後來卻為那經練過的人結出平安的果子，就是義。

忍受試探的人是有福的，因為他經過試驗以後，必得生命的冠冕；這是主應許給那些愛他之人的。

人仰望耶和華，靜默等候他的救恩，這原是好的。人在幼年負軛，這原是好的。他當獨坐無言，因為這是耶和華加在他身上的。他當口貼塵埃，或者有指望。他當由人打他的腮頰，要滿受凌辱。因為主必不永遠丟棄人。主雖使人憂愁，還要照他諸般的慈愛發憐憫。因他並不甘心使人受苦，使人憂愁。

我們曉得萬事都互相效力，叫愛神的人得益處，就是按他旨意被召的人。

叫你們的信心既被試驗，就比那被火試驗仍然能壞的金子更顯寶貴，可以在耶穌基督顯現的時候得着稱讚、榮耀、尊貴。
