The Lord spoke to you face to face out of the fire on the mountain.

The Lord spoke to you face to face. His voice came out of the fire on the mountain.

Have a people ever heard the voice of God speaking from the middle of fire, as you yourselves have, and lived to tell about it?

The LORD said to Moses,“ I am going to come to you in a dense cloud, so that the people may hear when I speak with you and so that they will always believe in you.” And Moses told the words of the people to the LORD.

From heaven he spoke to you in order to teach you, and on earth he showed you his great fire from which you also heard his words.

Now Mount Sinai was completely covered with smoke because the LORD had descended on it in fire, and its smoke went up like the smoke of a great furnace, and the whole mountain shook violently.When the sound of the horn grew louder and louder, Moses was speaking and God was answering him with a voice.

No prophet ever again arose in Israel like Moses, who knew the LORD face to face.

The LORD would speak to Moses face to face, the way a person speaks to a friend. Then Moses would return to the camp, but his servant, Joshua son of Nun, a young man, did not leave the tent.

You said,“ The LORD our God has shown us his great glory and we have heard him speak from the middle of the fire. It is now clear to us that God can speak to human beings and they can keep on living.But now, why should we die, because this intense fire will consume us! If we keep hearing the voice of the LORD our God we will die!Who is there from the entire human race who has heard the voice of the living God speaking from the middle of the fire as we have, and has lived?

All the people were seeing the thundering and the lightning, and heard the sound of the horn, and saw the mountain smoking– and when the people saw it they trembled with fear and kept their distance.They said to Moses,“ You speak to us and we will listen, but do not let God speak with us, lest we die.”Moses said to the people,“ Do not fear, for God has come to test you, that the fear of him may be before you so that you do not sin.”The people kept their distance, but Moses drew near the thick darkness where God was.The LORD said to Moses:“ Thus you will tell the Israelites:‘ You yourselves have seen that I have spoken with you from heaven.

With him I will speak face to face, openly, and not in riddles; and he will see the form of the LORD. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?”

then they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land. They have heard that you, LORD, are among this people, that you, LORD, are seen face to face, that your cloud stands over them, and that you go before them by day in a pillar of cloud and in a pillar of fire by night.
