“ Do not misuse the name of the Lord your God. The Lord will find guilty anyone who misuses his name.

“‘不可妄称耶和华—你上帝的名，因为妄称耶和华名的，耶和华必不以他为无罪。

“‘不可妄用你上帝耶和华的名，违者必被耶和华定罪。

“‘不可妄称耶和华你神的名，因为妄称耶和华的名的，耶和华必不以他为无罪。

「『不可妄稱耶和華－你神的名；因為妄稱耶和華名的，耶和華必不以他為無罪。

「『不可妄稱耶和華－你上帝的名，因為妄稱耶和華名的，耶和華必不以他為無罪。

「『不可妄用你上帝耶和華的名，違者必被耶和華定罪。

『「不可妄稱永恆主你的上帝的名，因為妄稱永恆主之名的、永恆主必不以他為無罪。

勿妄稱爾上帝耶和華之名、蓋耶和華必不以妄稱者為無罪、○

爾上帝耶和華之名、勿妄稱、妄稱者罪無赦。

毋妄稱爾天主耶和華之名、因妄稱耶和華名者、耶和華必不以之為無罪、或作斷無不罰

“ You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.

“‘ You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.

“ You must not misuse the name of the Lord your God. The Lord will not let you go unpunished if you misuse his name.

Do not misuse the name of the LORD your God, because the LORD will not leave anyone unpunished who misuses his name.

‘ You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not leave unpunished the one who takes His name in vain.

‘ You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.

Thou shalt not take the name of Jehovah thy God in vain: for Jehovah will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

Do not misuse the name of the Lord your God, because the Lord will not leave anyone unpunished who misuses His name.

Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold[ him] guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

You must not make use of the name of the LORD your God for worthless purposes, for the LORD will not exonerate anyone who abuses his name that way.

“ You shall not misuse the name of Yahweh your God; for Yahweh will not hold him guiltless who misuses his name.

“ Do not misuse the name of the Lord your God. The Lord will find guilty anyone who misuses his name.

“‘ Do not give your word in my name and then be a false witness. That would be treating the name of your God as if it were not holy. I am the Lord.

“ Again, you have heard what was said to your people long ago. They were told,‘ Do not break the promises you make to the Lord. Keep your promises to the Lord that you have made.’But here is what I tell you. Do not make any promises like that at all. Do not make them in the name of heaven. That is God’s throne.

Worship the Lord your God. He is the only one you should serve. When you make promises, do so in his name.

Make all your promises in my name. When you promise say,‘ You can be sure that the Lord is alive.’ Be truthful, fair and honest when you make these promises. Then the nations will ask for blessings from me. And they will boast about me.”

They are your enemies. They misuse your name. They misuse it for their own evil purposes.

My brothers and sisters, here is what is most important. Don’t make a promise by giving your word. Don’t promise by heaven or earth. And don’t promise by anything else to back up what you say. All you need to say is a simple“ Yes” or“ No.” If you do more than this, you will be judged.
