I lift my hand to heaven and solemnly swear: As surely as I live forever,

I raise my hand to heaven. Here is the promise I make. You can be sure that I live forever.

For I lift up my hand to heaven and swear, As I live forever,

But Abram said to the king of Sodom,“ With raised hand I have sworn an oath to the Lord, God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth, (niv)

Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath.God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. (niv)

Then the angel I had seen standing on the sea and on the land raised his right hand to heaven.And he swore by him who lives for ever and ever, who created the heavens and all that is in them, the earth and all that is in it, and the sea and all that is in it, and said,“ There will be no more delay! (niv)

and if in a truthful, just and righteous way you swear,‘ As surely as the Lord lives,’ then the nations will invoke blessings by him and in him they will boast.” (niv)

So tell them,‘ As surely as I live, declares the Lord, I will do to you the very thing I heard you say:In this wilderness your bodies will fall— every one of you twenty years old or more who was counted in the census and who has grumbled against me.Not one of you will enter the land I swore with uplifted hand to make your home, except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun. (niv)

And I will bring you to the land I swore with uplifted hand to give to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob. I will give it to you as a possession. I am the Lord.’” (niv)
