Were it not that I feared the wrath of the enemy, lest their adversaries should behave themselves strangely,[ and] lest they should say, Our hand[ is] high, and the LORD hath not done all this.

惟恐仇敌惹动我，只怕敌人错看，说：‘是我们手的能力，并非耶和华所行的。’

惟恐仇敌挑衅，他们的敌人误解，说，我们的手得胜了，这一切并非耶和华做的。’

but I dreaded the taunt of the enemy, lest the adversary misunderstand and say,‘ Our hand has triumphed; the Lord has not done all this.’”

But I was afraid their enemies would make fun of that. I was afraid their attackers would not understand. I was sure they would say,‘ We’re the ones who’ve beaten them! The Lord isn’t the one who did it.’ ”

had I not feared provocation by the enemy, lest their adversaries should misunderstand, lest they should say,“ Our hand is triumphant, it was not the Lord who did all this.”’

But I feared the taunt of Israel’s enemy, who might misunderstand and say,“ Our own power has triumphed! The Lord had nothing to do with this!”’

if I had not feared provocation from the enemy, or feared that these foes might misunderstand and say,‘ Our own hand has prevailed; it wasn’t the LORD who did all this.’”

Had I not feared the provocation by the enemy, That their adversaries would misjudge, That they would say,“ Our hand is triumphant, And the Lord has not performed all this.” ’

Had I not feared the wrath of the enemy, Lest their adversaries should misunderstand, Lest they should say,“ Our hand is high; And it is not the Lord who has done all this.”’

Were it not that I feared the provocation of the enemy, Lest their adversaries should judge amiss, Lest they should say, Our hand is exalted, And Jehovah hath not done all this.

if I had not feared insult from the enemy, or feared that these foes might misunderstand and say:‘ Our own hand has prevailed; it wasn’t the Lord who did all this.’”

But I fear the reaction of their enemies, for their adversaries would misunderstand and say,“ Our power is great, and the LORD has not done all this!”’

were it not that I feared the provocation of the enemy, lest their adversaries should judge wrongly, lest they should say,‘ Our hand is exalted, Yahweh has not done all this.’”

Grant not, O LORD, the desires of the wicked: further not his wicked device;[ lest] they exalt themselves. Selah.

For the LORD will not forsake his people for his great name’s sake: because it hath pleased the LORD to make you his people.

Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy,[ and] for thy truth’s sake.Wherefore should the heathen say, Where[ is] now their God?

And thou saidst, I shall be a lady for ever:[ so] that thou didst not lay these[ things] to thy heart, neither didst remember the latter end of it.

Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, and say, For mischief did he bring them out, to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from thy fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against thy people.

So the angel that communed with me said unto me, Cry thou, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.And I am very sore displeased with the heathen[ that are] at ease: for I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the affliction.

Have the gods of the nations delivered them which my fathers have destroyed,[ as] Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden which[ were] in Telassar?Where[ is] the king of Hamath, and the king of Arphad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah?And Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it: and Hezekiah went up unto the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD.And Hezekiah prayed unto the LORD, saying,O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, that dwellest[ between] the cherubims, thou[ art] the God,[ even] thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth: thou hast made heaven and earth.Incline thine ear, O LORD, and hear; open thine eyes, O LORD, and see: and hear all the words of Sennacherib, which hath sent to reproach the living God.Of a truth, LORD, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the nations, and their countries,And have cast their gods into the fire: for they[ were] no gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone: therefore they have destroyed them.Now therefore, O LORD our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou[ art] the LORD,[ even] thou only.Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent unto Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Whereas thou hast prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria:This[ is] the word which the LORD hath spoken concerning him; The virgin, the daughter of Zion, hath despised thee,[ and] laughed thee to scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem hath shaken her head at thee.Whom hast thou reproached and blasphemed? and against whom hast thou exalted[ thy] voice, and lifted up thine eyes on high?[ even] against the Holy One of Israel.

And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I[ am] the LORD your God.Notwithstanding the children rebelled against me: they walked not in my statutes, neither kept my judgments to do them, which[ if] a man do, he shall even live in them; they polluted my sabbaths: then I said, I would pour out my fury upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the wilderness.Nevertheless I withdrew mine hand, and wrought for my name’s sake, that it should not be polluted in the sight of the heathen, in whose sight I brought them forth.

For I will defend this city to save it for mine own sake, and for my servant David’s sake.

Because they have forsaken me, and have estranged this place, and have burned incense in it unto other gods, whom neither they nor their fathers have known, nor the kings of Judah, and have filled this place with the blood of innocents;

But I know thy abode, and thy going out, and thy coming in, and thy rage against me.Because thy rage against me, and thy tumult, is come up into mine ears, therefore will I put my hook in thy nose, and my bridle in thy lips, and I will turn thee back by the way by which thou camest.

For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land shall hear[ of it], and shall environ us round, and cut off our name from the earth: and what wilt thou do unto thy great name?

Thus shall ye speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy God, in whom thou trustest, deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.

The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?While the word[ was] in the king’s mouth, there fell a voice from heaven,[ saying], O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee.And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling[ shall be] with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles’[ feathers], and his nails like birds’[ claws].And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion[ is] an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom[ is] from generation to generation:And all the inhabitants of the earth[ are] reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and[ among] the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?At the same time my reason returned unto me; and for the glory of my kingdom, mine honour and brightness returned unto me; and my counsellors and my lords sought unto me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added unto me.Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, all whose works[ are] truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.

Her filthiness[ is] in her skirts; she remembereth not her last end; therefore she came down wonderfully: she had no comforter. O LORD, behold my affliction: for the enemy hath magnified[ himself].

But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness: they walked not in my statutes, and they despised my judgments, which[ if] a man do, he shall even live in them; and my sabbaths they greatly polluted: then I said, I would pour out my fury upon them in the wilderness, to consume them.But I wrought for my name’s sake, that it should not be polluted before the heathen, in whose sight I brought them out.

Now[ if] thou shalt kill[ all] this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of thee will speak, saying,Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he sware unto them, therefore he hath slain them in the wilderness.

For he saith,[ Are] not my princes altogether kings?[ Is] not Calno as Carchemish?[ is] not Hamath as Arpad?[ is] not Samaria as Damascus?As my hand hath found the kingdoms of the idols, and whose graven images did excel them of Jerusalem and of Samaria;Shall I not, as I have done unto Samaria and her idols, so do to Jerusalem and her idols?Wherefore it shall come to pass,[ that] when the Lord hath performed his whole work upon mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks.For he saith, By the strength of my hand I have done[ it], and by my wisdom; for I am prudent: and I have removed the bounds of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant[ man]:And my hand hath found as a nest the riches of the people: and as one gathereth eggs[ that are] left, have I gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped.Shall the axe boast itself against him that heweth therewith?[ or] shall the saw magnify itself against him that shaketh it? as if the rod should shake[ itself] against them that lift it up,[ or] as if the staff should lift up[ itself, as if it were] no wood.
