人民离开帐棚出发，要过约旦河的时候，抬约柜的祭司在人民的前面。抬约柜的祭司来到约旦河，他们的脚碰到水边的时候（原来约旦河水在收割的日子，常是涨过两岸的），水就停住了，那从上游流下来的水立起成垒，在很远的地方，就是在撒拉但旁边的亚当城那里停住；那往下流入亚拉巴海，就是盐海的水完全被截断；于是人民就在耶利哥的对面过了河。抬耶和华约柜的祭司在约旦河中间的干地上站住，等以色列众人都在干地上走过去，直到全国的人都完全走过了约旦河为止。

摩西就在那一天写下了这首诗歌，教导以色列人。耶和华吩咐嫩的儿子约书亚，说：“你当坚强勇敢，因为你要领以色列人进我向他们起誓应许的地，我必与你同在。”摩西把这律法的话写在书上，直到写完了，摩西就吩咐抬耶和华约柜的利未人说：“你们要把这律法书，放在耶和华你们的神的约柜旁，可以在那里作反对你们的见证，

这一切灾祸是按着摩西的律法书上所记载的，临到了我们身上，但我们仍没有恳求耶和华我们的神施恩，使我们离开罪孽，明白你的真理。

“老师，摩西曾写给我们说：‘如果一个人死了，留下妻子，没有儿女，他的弟弟就应当娶他的妻子，为哥哥立后。’

“你们要谨记我仆人摩西的律法，就是我在何烈山为以色列众人所吩咐他的律例和典章。

摩西照着耶和华的命令，把他们出发的路程记下来，他们出发的路程是这样：

你们若信摩西，也必信我，因为他所写的书曾论及我。

祭司的嘴当保存知识，人要从他的口中寻求教训，因为他是万军耶和华的使者。

律法是藉着摩西颁布的，恩典和真理却是藉着耶稣基督而来的。

腓力找到拿但业，告诉他：“摩西在律法书上所写的，和众先知所记的那位，我们已经遇见了，他就是约瑟的儿子拿撒勒人耶稣。”

那时大卫说：“神的约柜，除了利未人以外，没有人可以抬，因为耶和华拣选了他们抬神的约柜，并且永远事奉他。”

我的子民因无知识而灭亡；因为你拒绝了知识，我必拒绝你，不让你作我的祭司；因为你忘掉了你神的律法，我也必忘记你的子孙。

你们要把你们各支派的众长老和官长都召集到我这里来，我好把这些话说给他们听，并且呼天唤地对他们作证。

他们说：“摩西准许‘人写了休书就可以休妻’。”耶稣说：“因为你们的心硬，摩西才写这条例给你们。

对他们说：“你们是利未人各家族的首领，你们和你们的亲族都要自洁，好把以色列的神耶和华的约柜抬上来，到我为它预备的地方去。先前没有你们，耶和华我们的神就击打我们，因为我们没有按照定例寻求他。”于是祭司和利未人自洁，好把以色列的神耶和华的约柜抬上来。利未支派的子孙照着耶和华的话，就是摩西所吩咐的，用肩和杠来抬神的约柜。
