I am making this covenant with you so that no one among you— no man, woman, clan, or tribe— will turn away from the Lord our God to worship these gods of other nations, and so that no root among you bears bitter and poisonous fruit.

惟恐你们中间，或男或女，或族长或支派长，今日心里偏离耶和华我们的神，去侍奉那些国的神；又怕你们中间有恶根生出苦菜和茵陈来，

惟恐你们中间有人，或男或女，或宗族或支派，今日心里偏离耶和华—我们的上帝，去事奉那些国的神明，又怕你们中间有根长出苦菜和茵陈来。

惟恐你们中间有人，或男或女，或宗族或支派，今日心里偏离耶和华—我们的神，去事奉那些国的神明，又怕你们中间有根长出苦菜和茵陈来。

你们中间，不论男人或女人，家族或支派，切不可有人背弃我们的上帝耶和华，去祭拜列国的神明，免得你们中间有残根长出苦毒的果实，

恐怕你们中间有男人或女人，家族或支派，今日心里偏离了耶和华我们的神，去事奉那些国的神，又恐怕你们中间有恶根，生出毒草和苦堇来；

惟恐你們中間，或男或女，或族長或支派長，今日心裏偏離耶和華－我們的神，去事奉那些國的神；又怕你們中間有惡根生出苦菜和茵蔯來，

惟恐你們中間有人，或男或女，或宗族或支派，今日心裏偏離耶和華－我們的上帝，去事奉那些國的神明，又怕你們中間有根長出苦菜和茵蔯來。

恐怕你們中間有男人或女人，家族或支派，今日心裡偏離了耶和華我們的神，去事奉那些國的神，又恐怕你們中間有惡根，生出毒草和苦堇來；

我同你們立約宣誓，是恐怕你們中間有人、或男人或女人、或家族或族派、今日心裏偏離了永恆主我們的上帝，去事奉那些國的神；又恐怕你們中間有惡根、結出毒菜和苦堇為果實來，

此約之立、以免爾中男女、宗族支派、今日中心違棄我上帝耶和華、往事斯族之神、致有荼毒之根、生於爾中、

爾中之男女、宗族支派、其心毋違我上帝耶和華、而奉事他邦之上帝、爾中之人、其毒毋太苦、如茵蔯之根、

如爾中或男或女、或宗族、或支派、今日心棄主我之天主、往事此諸邦之神、若有苦毒之根、生於爾中、

Make sure there is no man or woman, clan or tribe among you today whose heart turns away from the Lord our God to go and worship the gods of those nations; make sure there is no root among you that produces such bitter poison.

Make sure there isn’t a man or woman among your families or tribes who turns away from the Lord our God. No one must worship the gods of those nations. Make sure that kind of worship doesn’t spread like bitter poison through your whole community.

Beware lest there be among you a man or woman or clan or tribe whose heart is turning away today from the Lord our God to go and serve the gods of those nations. Beware lest there be among you a root bearing poisonous and bitter fruit,

Be sure there is no man, woman, clan, or tribe among you today whose heart turns away from the LORD our God to go and worship the gods of those nations. Be sure there is no root among you bearing poisonous and bitter fruit.

so that there will not be among you a man or woman, or family or tribe, whose heart turns away today from the Lord our God, to go to serve the gods of those nations; that there will not be among you a root bearing poisonous fruit and wormwood.

so that there may not be among you man or woman or family or tribe, whose heart turns away today from the Lord our God, to go and serve the gods of these nations, and that there may not be among you a root bearing bitterness or wormwood;

lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turneth away this day from Jehovah our God, to go to serve the gods of those nations; lest there should be among you a root that beareth gall and wormwood;

Be sure there is no man, woman, clan, or tribe among you today whose heart turns away from the Lord our God to go and worship the gods of those nations. Be sure there is no root among you bearing poisonous and bitter fruit.

Lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turneth away this day from the LORD our God, to go[ and] serve the gods of these nations; lest there should be among you a root that beareth gall and wormwood;

Beware that the heart of no man, woman, clan, or tribe among you turns away from the LORD our God today to pursue and serve the gods of those nations; beware that there is among you no root producing poisonous and bitter fruit.

lest there should be among you man, woman, family, or tribe whose heart turns away today from Yahweh our God, to go to serve the gods of those nations; lest there should be among you a root that produces bitter poison;

Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many.

“ But be careful. Don’t let your heart be deceived so that you turn away from the Lord and serve and worship other gods.If you do, the Lord’s anger will burn against you. He will shut up the sky and hold back the rain, and the ground will fail to produce its harvests. Then you will quickly die in that good land the Lord is giving you.

“ Suppose there are prophets among you or those who dream dreams about the future, and they promise you signs or miracles,and the predicted signs or miracles occur. If they then say,‘ Come, let us worship other gods’— gods you have not known before—do not listen to them. The Lord your God is testing you to see if you truly love him with all your heart and soul.Serve only the Lord your God and fear him alone. Obey his commands, listen to his voice, and cling to him.The false prophets or visionaries who try to lead you astray must be put to death, for they encourage rebellion against the Lord your God, who redeemed you from slavery and brought you out of the land of Egypt. Since they try to lead you astray from the way the Lord your God commanded you to live, you must put them to death. In this way you will purge the evil from among you.“ Suppose someone secretly entices you— even your brother, your son or daughter, your beloved wife, or your closest friend— and says,‘ Let us go worship other gods’— gods that neither you nor your ancestors have known.They might suggest that you worship the gods of peoples who live nearby or who come from the ends of the earth.But do not give in or listen. Have no pity, and do not spare or protect them.You must put them to death! Strike the first blow yourself, and then all the people must join in.Stone the guilty ones to death because they have tried to draw you away from the Lord your God, who rescued you from the land of Egypt, the place of slavery.Then all Israel will hear about it and be afraid, and no one will act so wickedly again.“ When you begin living in the towns the Lord your God is giving you, you may hearthat scoundrels among you are leading their fellow citizens astray by saying,‘ Let us go worship other gods’— gods you have not known before.In such cases, you must examine the facts carefully. If you find that the report is true and such a detestable act has been committed among you,you must attack that town and completely destroy all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock.

So now, this is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says: Look! I will feed them with bitterness and give them poison to drink.

Can horses gallop over boulders? Can oxen be used to plow them? But that’s how foolish you are when you turn justice into poison and the sweet fruit of righteousness into bitterness.

Be careful then, dear brothers and sisters. Make sure that your own hearts are not evil and unbelieving, turning you away from the living God.

for I can see that you are full of bitter jealousy and are held captive by sin.”

“ When you begin living in the towns the Lord your God is giving you, a man or woman among you might do evil in the sight of the Lord your God and violate the covenant.For instance, they might serve other gods or worship the sun, the moon, or any of the stars— the forces of heaven— which I have strictly forbidden.When you hear about it, investigate the matter thoroughly. If it is true that this detestable thing has been done in Israel,then the man or woman who has committed such an evil act must be taken to the gates of the town and stoned to death.But never put a person to death on the testimony of only one witness. There must always be two or three witnesses.The witnesses must throw the first stones, and then all the people may join in. In this way, you will purge the evil from among you.

They spout empty words and make covenants they don’t intend to keep. So injustice springs up among them like poisonous weeds in a farmer’s field.
