Then you shall declare before the Lord your God:“ My father was a wandering Aramean, and he went down into Egypt with a few people and lived there and became a great nation, powerful and numerous.

你要在耶和华—你上帝面前告白说：‘我的祖先原是一个流亡的亚兰人，带着稀少的人丁下到埃及寄居。在那里，他却成了又大又强、人数众多的国。

爾在爾上帝耶和華前必曰、我祖亞蘭人、乃瀕死者、往旅埃及、人數無多、而成大族、強盛繁衍、

爾在上帝耶和華前必告曰、吾祖亞蘭人、遊牧無定、攜人無多、以往埃及於彼昌大、繁衍其族。

爾在主爾之天主前、當敬告曰、我祖亞蘭人飄流無定、飄流無定或作窘迫將亡攜人無多以往伊及、乃旅於彼、在彼成為大族、強盛蕃衍、

Then you will speak while the Lord is listening. You will say,“ My father Jacob was a wanderer from the land of Aram. He went down into Egypt with a few people. He lived there and became the father of a great nation. It had huge numbers of people.

“ And you shall make response before the Lord your God,‘ A wandering Aramean was my father. And he went down into Egypt and sojourned there, few in number, and there he became a nation, great, mighty, and populous.

“ You must then say in the presence of the Lord your God,‘ My ancestor Jacob was a wandering Aramean who went to live as a foreigner in Egypt. His family arrived few in number, but in Egypt they became a large and mighty nation.

You are to respond by saying in the presence of the LORD your God: My father was a wandering Aramean. He went down to Egypt with a few people and resided there as an alien. There he became a great, powerful, and populous nation.

And you shall respond and say before the Lord your God,‘ My father was a wandering Aramean, and he went down to Egypt and resided there, few in number; but there he became a great, mighty, and populous nation.

And you shall answer and say before the Lord your God:‘ My father was a Syrian, about to perish, and he went down to Egypt and dwelt there, few in number; and there he became a nation, great, mighty, and populous.

And thou shalt answer and say before Jehovah thy God, A Syrian ready to perish was my father; and he went down into Egypt, and sojourned there, few in number; and he became there a nation, great, mighty, and populous.

You are to respond by saying in the presence of the Lord your God: My father was a wandering Aramean. He went down to Egypt with a few people and lived there. There he became a great, powerful, and populous nation.

And thou shalt speak and say before the LORD thy God, A Syrian ready to perish[ was] my father, and he went down into Egypt, and sojourned there with a few, and became there a nation, great, mighty, and populous:

Then you must affirm before the LORD YOUR GOD,“ A wandering Aramean was my ancestor, and he went down to Egypt and lived there as a foreigner with a household few in number, but there he became a great, powerful, and numerous people.

You shall answer and say before Yahweh your God,“ My father was a Syrian ready to perish. He went down into Egypt, and lived there, few in number. There he became a great, mighty, and populous nation.

Now the famine was still severe in the land.So when they had eaten all the grain they had brought from Egypt, their father said to them,“ Go back and buy us a little more food.”

With the two sons who had been born to Joseph in Egypt, the members of Jacob’s family, which went to Egypt, were seventy in all.

Your ancestors who went down into Egypt were seventy in all, and now the Lord your God has made you as numerous as the stars in the sky.

I will provide for you there, because five years of famine are still to come. Otherwise you and your household and all who belong to you will become destitute.’

But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance.

Take double the amount of silver with you, for you must return the silver that was put back into the mouths of your sacks. Perhaps it was a mistake.

Jacob fled to the country of Aram; Israel served to get a wife, and to pay for her he tended sheep.

Then Jacob went down to Egypt, where he and our ancestors died.

The Lord did not set his affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples.

“ Listen to me, you who pursue righteousness and who seek the Lord: Look to the rock from which you were cut and to the quarry from which you were hewn;look to Abraham, your father, and to Sarah, who gave you birth. When I called him he was only one man, and I blessed him and made him many.

The descendants of Jacob numbered seventy in all; Joseph was already in Egypt.

but the Israelites were exceedingly fruitful; they multiplied greatly, increased in numbers and became so numerous that the land was filled with them.

and Isaac was forty years old when he married Rebekah daughter of Bethuel the Aramean from Paddan Aram and sister of Laban the Aramean.

So Israel set out with all that was his, and when he reached Beersheba, he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.And God spoke to Israel in a vision at night and said,“ Jacob! Jacob!”“ Here I am,” he replied.“ I am God, the God of your father,” he said.“ Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you into a great nation there.I will go down to Egypt with you, and I will surely bring you back again. And Joseph’s own hand will close your eyes.”Then Jacob left Beersheba, and Israel’s sons took their father Jacob and their children and their wives in the carts that Pharaoh had sent to transport him.So Jacob and all his offspring went to Egypt, taking with them their livestock and the possessions they had acquired in Canaan.Jacob brought with him to Egypt his sons and grandsons and his daughters and granddaughters— all his offspring.

But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and spread; so the Egyptians came to dread the Israelites

Then God came to Laban the Aramean in a dream at night and said to him,“ Be careful not to say anything to Jacob, either good or bad.”

This was my situation: The heat consumed me in the daytime and the cold at night, and sleep fled from my eyes.

Then Israel entered Egypt; Jacob resided as a foreigner in the land of Ham.The Lord made his people very fruitful; he made them too numerous for their foes,

Moreover, Jacob deceived Laban the Aramean by not telling him he was running away.

but will go to my country and my own relatives and get a wife for my son Isaac.”

Then Isaac sent Jacob on his way, and he went to Paddan Aram, to Laban son of Bethuel the Aramean, the brother of Rebekah, who was the mother of Jacob and Esau.

Esau held a grudge against Jacob because of the blessing his father had given him. He said to himself,“ The days of mourning for my father are near; then I will kill my brother Jacob.”

Now the Israelites settled in Egypt in the region of Goshen. They acquired property there and were fruitful and increased greatly in number.
