“ And you shall make response before the Lord your God,‘ A wandering Aramean was my father. And he went down into Egypt and sojourned there, few in number, and there he became a nation, great, mighty, and populous.

爾在爾上帝耶和華前必曰、我祖亞蘭人、乃瀕死者、往旅埃及、人數無多、而成大族、強盛繁衍、

爾在上帝耶和華前必告曰、吾祖亞蘭人、遊牧無定、攜人無多、以往埃及於彼昌大、繁衍其族。

爾在主爾之天主前、當敬告曰、我祖亞蘭人飄流無定、飄流無定或作窘迫將亡攜人無多以往伊及、乃旅於彼、在彼成為大族、強盛蕃衍、

Then you shall declare before the Lord your God:“ My father was a wandering Aramean, and he went down into Egypt with a few people and lived there and became a great nation, powerful and numerous.

Then you will speak while the Lord is listening. You will say,“ My father Jacob was a wanderer from the land of Aram. He went down into Egypt with a few people. He lived there and became the father of a great nation. It had huge numbers of people.

“ You must then say in the presence of the Lord your God,‘ My ancestor Jacob was a wandering Aramean who went to live as a foreigner in Egypt. His family arrived few in number, but in Egypt they became a large and mighty nation.

You are to respond by saying in the presence of the LORD your God: My father was a wandering Aramean. He went down to Egypt with a few people and resided there as an alien. There he became a great, powerful, and populous nation.

And you shall respond and say before the Lord your God,‘ My father was a wandering Aramean, and he went down to Egypt and resided there, few in number; but there he became a great, mighty, and populous nation.

And you shall answer and say before the Lord your God:‘ My father was a Syrian, about to perish, and he went down to Egypt and dwelt there, few in number; and there he became a nation, great, mighty, and populous.

And thou shalt answer and say before Jehovah thy God, A Syrian ready to perish was my father; and he went down into Egypt, and sojourned there, few in number; and he became there a nation, great, mighty, and populous.

You are to respond by saying in the presence of the Lord your God: My father was a wandering Aramean. He went down to Egypt with a few people and lived there. There he became a great, powerful, and populous nation.

And thou shalt speak and say before the LORD thy God, A Syrian ready to perish[ was] my father, and he went down into Egypt, and sojourned there with a few, and became there a nation, great, mighty, and populous:

Then you must affirm before the LORD YOUR GOD,“ A wandering Aramean was my ancestor, and he went down to Egypt and lived there as a foreigner with a household few in number, but there he became a great, powerful, and numerous people.

You shall answer and say before Yahweh your God,“ My father was a Syrian ready to perish. He went down into Egypt, and lived there, few in number. There he became a great, mighty, and populous nation.

Now the famine was severe in the land.And when they had eaten the grain that they had brought from Egypt, their father said to them,“ Go again, buy us a little food.”

And the sons of Joseph, who were born to him in Egypt, were two. All the persons of the house of Jacob who came into Egypt were seventy.

Your fathers went down to Egypt seventy persons, and now the Lord your God has made you as numerous as the stars of heaven.

There I will provide for you, for there are yet five years of famine to come, so that you and your household, and all that you have, do not come to poverty.’

And God sent me before you to preserve for you a remnant on earth, and to keep alive for you many survivors.

Take double the money with you. Carry back with you the money that was returned in the mouth of your sacks. Perhaps it was an oversight.

Jacob fled to the land of Aram; there Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he guarded sheep.

And Jacob went down into Egypt, and he died, he and our fathers,

It was not because you were more in number than any other people that the Lord set his love on you and chose you, for you were the fewest of all peoples,

“ Listen to me, you who pursue righteousness, you who seek the Lord: look to the rock from which you were hewn, and to the quarry from which you were dug.Look to Abraham your father and to Sarah who bore you; for he was but one when I called him, that I might bless him and multiply him.

All the descendants of Jacob were seventy persons; Joseph was already in Egypt.

But the people of Israel were fruitful and increased greatly; they multiplied and grew exceedingly strong, so that the land was filled with them.

and Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Aramean of Paddan-aram, the sister of Laban the Aramean, to be his wife.

So Israel took his journey with all that he had and came to Beersheba, and offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.And God spoke to Israel in visions of the night and said,“ Jacob, Jacob.” And he said,“ Here I am.”Then he said,“ I am God, the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for there I will make you into a great nation.I myself will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also bring you up again, and Joseph’s hand shall close your eyes.”Then Jacob set out from Beersheba. The sons of Israel carried Jacob their father, their little ones, and their wives, in the wagons that Pharaoh had sent to carry him.They also took their livestock and their goods, which they had gained in the land of Canaan, and came into Egypt, Jacob and all his offspring with him,his sons, and his sons’ sons with him, his daughters, and his sons’ daughters. All his offspring he brought with him into Egypt.

But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and the more they spread abroad. And the Egyptians were in dread of the people of Israel.

But God came to Laban the Aramean in a dream by night and said to him,“ Be careful not to say anything to Jacob, either good or bad.”

There I was: by day the heat consumed me, and the cold by night, and my sleep fled from my eyes.

Then Israel came to Egypt; Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham.And the Lord made his people very fruitful and made them stronger than their foes.

And Jacob tricked Laban the Aramean, by not telling him that he intended to flee.

but will go to my country and to my kindred, and take a wife for my son Isaac.”

Thus Isaac sent Jacob away. And he went to Paddan-aram, to Laban, the son of Bethuel the Aramean, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob’s and Esau’s mother.

Now Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father had blessed him, and Esau said to himself,“ The days of mourning for my father are approaching; then I will kill my brother Jacob.”

Thus Israel settled in the land of Egypt, in the land of Goshen. And they gained possessions in it, and were fruitful and multiplied greatly.
