「以色列人啊，要聆聽我傳授給你們的律法，要切實遵行，以便你們可以存活，並進入你們祖先的上帝耶和華賜給你們的那片土地。我吩咐你們的，你們不可做任何增減，這是你們的上帝耶和華的命令，你們要遵守。你們親眼看見耶和華在巴力·毗珥事件中的作為，你們的上帝耶和華毀滅了你們中間所有拜巴力·毗珥的人，但你們這些信靠你們的上帝耶和華的人至今還活著。看啊，遵照我的上帝耶和華的吩咐，我把律例和典章傳授給你們，好讓你們在將要佔領的土地上遵守。你們要謹遵這些律例和典章，因為這樣就會讓外族人看見你們的智慧和聰明。他們聽見這些律法後，必說，『這偉大的民族真有智慧和聰明！』

你們也不可聽從他們。因為這是你們的上帝耶和華在試驗你們，要看看你們是否全心全意地愛祂。你們要跟從你們的上帝耶和華，敬畏祂，遵守祂的誡命，聽從祂的話，事奉祂，倚靠祂。

接受我的命令又遵行的，就是愛我的人。愛我的，父必定愛他，我也要愛他，並且要親自向他顯現。」猶大，不是後來出賣耶穌的猶大，問耶穌：「主啊，你為什麼只向我們顯現而不向世人顯現呢？」耶穌回答說：「愛我的人必遵行我的道，我父也必愛他，並且我們要到他那裡與他同住。不愛我的人不會遵行我的道。你們所聽見的道不是出於我自己，而是出於差我來的父。

「你們要愛你們的上帝耶和華，時刻遵守祂的吩咐、律例、典章和誡命。

教導他們遵守我吩咐你們的一切。記住，我必常與你們同在，一直到世界的末了。」

要謹遵你們的上帝耶和華吩咐你們的誡命、法度和律例。

要記住這四十年來你們的上帝耶和華怎樣在曠野引領你們，祂磨煉你們、考驗你們，好知道你們的心意如何、肯不肯遵守祂的誡命。

「你們要謹遵我的一切吩咐，不可增添，也不可刪減。

「你們的上帝耶和華吩咐我教導你們以下的誡命、律例和典章，以便你們在將要佔領的土地上遵行。

「因此，你們要遵守我今天吩咐你們的誡命，以便有力量過河攻取你們將要攻取的土地，

你們要全心、全意、全力愛你們的上帝耶和華。

但你們若在那裡尋求你們的上帝耶和華，全心全意地尋求祂，就必尋見。
