Your godliness will lead you forward, and the glory of the Lord will protect you from behind.Then when you call, the Lord will answer.‘ Yes, I am here,’ he will quickly reply.“ Remove the heavy yoke of oppression. Stop pointing your finger and spreading vicious rumors!Feed the hungry, and help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you will be as bright as noon.The Lord will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength. You will be like a well watered garden, like an ever flowing spring.

Instead, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind.Then at the resurrection of the righteous, God will reward you for inviting those who could not repay you.”

Then you must declare in the presence of the Lord your God,‘ I have taken the sacred gift from my house and have given it to the Levites, foreigners, orphans, and widows, just as you commanded me. I have not violated or forgotten any of your commands.

Oh, the joys of those who are kind to the poor! The Lord rescues them when they are in trouble.The Lord protects them and keeps them alive. He gives them prosperity in the land and rescues them from their enemies.The Lord nurses them when they are sick and restores them to health.

But generous people plan to do what is generous, and they stand firm in their generosity.

When you beat the olives from your olive trees, don’t go over the boughs twice. Leave the remaining olives for the foreigners, orphans, and widows.When you gather the grapes in your vineyard, don’t glean the vines after they are picked. Leave the remaining grapes for the foreigners, orphans, and widows.

They share freely and give generously to those in need. Their good deeds will be remembered forever. They will have influence and honor.

Remember this— a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop.You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure.“ For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.

So the Lord blessed Job in the second half of his life even more than in the beginning. For now he had 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 teams of oxen, and 1,000 female donkeys.

If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion— how can God’s love be in that person?Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.Our actions will show that we belong to the truth, so we will be confident when we stand before God.

Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full— pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.”

Give generously to the poor, not grudgingly, for the Lord your God will bless you in everything you do.

“ Have I refused to help the poor, or crushed the hopes of widows?Have I been stingy with my food and refused to share it with orphans?No, from childhood I have cared for orphans like a father, and all my life I have cared for widows.Whenever I saw the homeless without clothes and the needy with nothing to wear,did they not praise me for providing wool clothing to keep them warm?“ If I raised my hand against an orphan, knowing the judges would take my side,then let my shoulder be wrenched out of place! Let my arm be torn from its socket!

It is a sin to belittle one’s neighbor; blessed are those who help the poor.

“ Love your enemies! Do good to them. Lend to them without expecting to be repaid. Then your reward from heaven will be very great, and you will truly be acting as children of the Most High, for he is kind to those who are unthankful and wicked.

And pull out some heads of barley from the bundles and drop them on purpose for her. Let her pick them up, and don’t give her a hard time!”
