“ You shall not oppress a hired servant who is poor and needy, whether one of your brethren or one of the aliens who is in your land within your gates.

Do not take advantage of a hired worker who is poor and needy, whether that worker is a fellow Israelite or a foreigner residing in one of your towns.

Don’t take advantage of any hired worker who is poor and needy. That applies to your own people. It also applies to outsiders living in one of your towns.

“ You shall not oppress a hired worker who is poor and needy, whether he is one of your brothers or one of the sojourners who are in your land within your towns.

“ Never take advantage of poor and destitute laborers, whether they are fellow Israelites or foreigners living in your towns.

“ Do not oppress a hired worker who is poor and needy, whether one of your Israelite brothers or one of the resident aliens in a town in your land.

“ You shall not exploit a hired worker who is poor and needy, whether he is one of your countrymen or one of your strangers who are in your land in your towns.

Thou shalt not oppress a hired servant that is poor and needy, whether he be of thy brethren, or of thy sojourners that are in thy land within thy gates:

“ Do not oppress a hired hand who is poor and needy, whether one of your brothers or one of the foreigners residing within a town in your land.

You must not oppress a lowly and poor servant, whether one from among your fellow Israelites or from the resident foreigners who are living in your land and villages.

You shall not oppress a hired servant who is poor and needy, whether he is one of your brothers or one of the foreigners who are in your land within your gates.

And I will come near you for judgment; I will be a swift witness Against sorcerers, Against adulterers, Against perjurers, Against those who exploit wage earners and widows and orphans, And against those who turn away an alien— Because they do not fear Me,” Says the Lord of hosts.

He who oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker, But he who honors Him has mercy on the needy.

He who oppresses the poor to increase his riches, And he who gives to the rich, will surely come to poverty.

Hear this word, you cows of Bashan, who are on the mountain of Samaria, Who oppress the poor, Who crush the needy, Who say to your husbands,“ Bring wine, let us drink!”

They pant after the dust of the earth which is on the head of the poor, And pervert the way of the humble. A man and his father go in to the same girl, To defile My holy name.

“ If I have despised the cause of my male or female servant When they complained against me,What then shall I do when God rises up? When He punishes, how shall I answer Him?Did not He who made me in the womb make them? Did not the same One fashion us in the womb?

They cause the poor to go naked, without clothing; And they take away the sheaves from the hungry.They press out oil within their walls, And tread winepresses, yet suffer thirst.

‘ If one of your brethren becomes poor, and falls into poverty among you, then you shall help him, like a stranger or a sojourner, that he may live with you.Take no usury or interest from him; but fear your God, that your brother may live with you.You shall not lend him your money for usury, nor lend him your food at a profit.I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to give you the land of Canaan and to be your God.‘ And if one of your brethren who dwells by you becomes poor, and sells himself to you, you shall not compel him to serve as a slave.As a hired servant and a sojourner he shall be with you, and shall serve you until the Year of Jubilee.And then he shall depart from you— he and his children with him— and shall return to his own family. He shall return to the possession of his fathers.For they are My servants, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt; they shall not be sold as slaves.You shall not rule over him with rigor, but you shall fear your God.

“ If your brother, a Hebrew man, or a Hebrew woman, is sold to you and serves you six years, then in the seventh year you shall let him go free from you.And when you send him away free from you, you shall not let him go away empty-handed;you shall supply him liberally from your flock, from your threshing floor, and from your winepress. From what the Lord your God has blessed you with, you shall give to him.You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God redeemed you; therefore I command you this thing today.And if it happens that he says to you,‘ I will not go away from you,’ because he loves you and your house, since he prospers with you,then you shall take an awl and thrust it through his ear to the door, and he shall be your servant forever. Also to your female servant you shall do likewise.It shall not seem hard to you when you send him away free from you; for he has been worth a double hired servant in serving you six years. Then the Lord your God will bless you in all that you do.

In you they have made light of father and mother; in your midst they have oppressed the stranger; in you they have mistreated the fatherless and the widow.

Hear this, you who swallow up the needy, And make the poor of the land fail,

And remain in the same house, eating and drinking such things as they give, for the laborer is worthy of his wages. Do not go from house to house.
