Give the people these orders:‘ You are about to pass through the territory of your relatives the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. They will be afraid of you, but be very careful.

Here are the orders I want you to give the people. Tell them,‘ You are about to pass through the territory of your relatives. They are from the family line of Esau. They live in Seir. They will be afraid of you. But be very careful.

Give these orders to the people:“ You will pass through the country belonging to your relatives the Edomites, the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. The Edomites will feel threatened, so be careful.

Command the people: You are about to travel through the territory of your brothers, the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. They will be afraid of you, so be very careful.

and command the people, saying,“ You are going to pass through the territory of your brothers the sons of Esau, who live in Seir; and they will be afraid of you. So be very careful;

And command thou the people, saying, Ye are to pass through the border of your brethren the children of Esau, that dwell in Seir; and they will be afraid of you. Take ye good heed unto yourselves therefore;

Instruct these people as follows:‘ You are about to cross the border of your relatives the descendants of Esau, who inhabit Seir. They will be afraid of you, so watch yourselves carefully.

Command the people, saying,‘ You are to pass through the border of your brothers, the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir; and they will be afraid of you. Therefore be careful.

Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom:“ Thus says your brother Israel: You know all the hardship that we have met:how our fathers went down to Egypt, and we lived in Egypt a long time. And the Egyptians dealt harshly with us and our fathers.And when we cried to the Lord, he heard our voice and sent an angel and brought us out of Egypt. And here we are in Kadesh, a city on the edge of your territory.Please let us pass through your land. We will not pass through field or vineyard, or drink water from a well. We will go along the King’s Highway. We will not turn aside to the right hand or to the left until we have passed through your territory.”But Edom said to him,“ You shall not pass through, lest I come out with the sword against you.”And the people of Israel said to him,“ We will go up by the highway, and if we drink of your water, I and my livestock, then I will pay for it. Let me only pass through on foot, nothing more.”But he said,“ You shall not pass through.” And Edom came out against them with a large army and with a strong force.Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his territory, so Israel turned away from him.

Now are the chiefs of Edom dismayed; trembling seizes the leaders of Moab; all the inhabitants of Canaan have melted away.

“ You shall not abhor an Edomite, for he is your brother. You shall not abhor an Egyptian, because you were a sojourner in his land.

that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world,

And Moab was in great dread of the people, because they were many. Moab was overcome with fear of the people of Israel.And Moab said to the elders of Midian,“ This horde will now lick up all that is around us, as the ox licks up the grass of the field.” So Balak the son of Zippor, who was king of Moab at that time,

In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

And he said to them,“ Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”

Because of the violence done to your brother Jacob, shame shall cover you, and you shall be cut off forever.On the day that you stood aloof, on the day that strangers carried off his wealth and foreigners entered his gates and cast lots for Jerusalem, you were like one of them.But do not gloat over the day of your brother in the day of his misfortune; do not rejoice over the people of Judah in the day of their ruin; do not boast in the day of distress.Do not enter the gate of my people in the day of their calamity; do not gloat over his disaster in the day of his calamity; do not loot his wealth in the day of his calamity.

And now, behold, I am going to my people. Come, I will let you know what this people will do to your people in the latter days.”And he took up his discourse and said,“ The oracle of Balaam the son of Beor, the oracle of the man whose eye is opened,the oracle of him who hears the words of God, and knows the knowledge of the Most High, who sees the vision of the Almighty, falling down with his eyes uncovered:I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near: a star shall come out of Jacob, and a scepter shall rise out of Israel; it shall crush the forehead of Moab and break down all the sons of Sheth.Edom shall be dispossessed; Seir also, his enemies, shall be dispossessed. Israel is doing valiantly.

Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time.

Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise,
