只是在耶和华你的神赐给你作产业的这些国民的城市里，凡有气息的，连一个你也不可让他活着；只要照着耶和华你的神吩咐你的，把赫人、亚摩利人、迦南人、比利洗人、希未人、耶布斯人，完全灭绝；免得他们教导你们学习一切可憎的事，就是他们对自己的神所行的事，以致你们得罪耶和华你们的神。

那些城所有的战利品和牲畜，以色列人都据为己有；只是把所有的人都用刀击杀了，直到把他们杀尽；有气息的，他们没有留下一个。

他们回答约书亚，说：“因为你的仆人确实地听见，耶和华你的神曾经吩咐他的仆人摩西，要把这整片土地赐给你们，并且要在你们面前把这地上所有的居民都消灭，因此，我们因你们的缘故，很怕丧命，才行了这事。

于是以色列人向耶和华许愿，说：“如果你把这民交在我手里，我就必把他们的城尽行毁灭。”耶和华听了以色列人的祈求，就把迦南人交给他们，于是他们把迦南人和他们的城尽行毁灭；那地方的名就叫何珥玛。

“一切永属耶和华的圣物，就是人永献给耶和华的物，无论是人或是牲畜，或是他承受作产业的田地，都不可以变卖，也不可以赎回；一切永献之物都是归耶和华为至圣的。如果有人永献牲畜作永属耶和华的圣物，就不可赎回；必须把它杀死。

生擒了亚玛力人的王亚甲，用刀杀灭了所有人民。但扫罗和众人怜惜亚甲，也爱惜上好的牛羊、肥牛犊、羊羔和一切美好的东西。他们不愿彻底毁灭这些；凡是卑贱的、没有价值的，他们就彻底毁灭。
