“你只要自己謹慎，又要謹守你的心思，免得你忘了你親眼看見的事，又免得這些事在你有生之日離開你的心；總要把這些事傳給你的子子孫孫，免得你忘了你在何烈山，站在耶和華你們的神面前的那天。那時耶和華對我說：‘你要為我召集眾民，我要叫他們聽我的話，使他們在那地上生活的日子，可以學習敬畏我，又可以教訓自己的兒女。’

我兒，如果你接受我的話，把我的誡命珍藏在心裡，

孩子們！你們要來聽我；我要教導你們敬畏耶和華。

只有活人才能稱謝你，像我今日一樣；作父親的，要讓兒女知道你的信實。

他在雅各設立法度，在以色列中制訂律法，就是他吩咐我們的列祖，去教訓他們的子孫的，好使後代的人，包括將要出生的兒女，都可以知道；他們也要起來，告訴他們的子孫，

孩子們，要聽父親的教訓，留心學習哲理；因為我授予你們的，是美好的學問，我的訓誨，你們不可離棄。我在我父親面前還是小孩子，在我母親面前是獨一的嬌兒的時候，父親教導我，對我說：“你的心要持守我的話，你要遵守我的誡命，就可以存活；要求取智慧和哲理，不可忘記，也不可偏離我口中的話。不可離棄智慧，智慧就必護衛你；喜愛智慧，智慧就必看顧你。智慧的開端（“智慧的開端”或譯：“智慧是首要的”）是求取智慧，要用你所得的一切換取哲理。你要高舉智慧，智慧就必使你高升；你要懷抱智慧，智慧就必使你得尊榮。智慧必把華冠加在你頭上，把榮冕賜給你。”我兒，你要聽，並要接受我所說的，這樣，你就必延年益壽。我指教你走智慧的道，引導你行正直的路。你行走的時候，腳步必不會受阻礙；你奔跑的時候，也不會跌倒。你要堅守教訓，不可放鬆；要謹守教訓，因為那是你的生命。不可走進惡人的路徑，不可踏上壞人的道路。要躲避，不可從那裡經過，要轉身離去。因為他們不行惡，就不能入睡；不使人跌倒，就要失眠。他們吃的，是奸惡的飯；他們喝的，是強暴的酒。義人的路徑卻像黎明的曙光，越來越明亮，直到日午。惡人的道路幽暗，他們不知道自己因甚麼跌倒。我兒，要留心聽我的話，側耳聽我所說的。不可讓它們離開你的眼目，要謹記在你的心中。因為得著它們就是得著生命，整個人也得著醫治。你要謹守你的心，勝過謹守一切，因為生命的泉源由此而出。你要除掉欺詐的口，遠離乖謬的嘴唇。你雙眼要向前正視，你的眼睛要向前直望。你要謹慎你腳下的路徑，你一切所行的就必穩妥。不可偏左偏右，要使你的腳遠離惡事。
