At that time the Lord set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the Lord, to stand before the Lord to minister and to pronounce blessings in his name, as they still do today.

And when Aaron and his sons have made an end of covering the sanctuary, and all the furniture of the sanctuary, as the camp is set forward; after that, the sons of Kohath shall come to bear it: but they shall not touch the sanctuary, lest they die. These things are the burden of the sons of Kohath in the tent of meeting.

Bring the tribe of Levi near, and set them before Aaron the priest, that they may minister unto him.

Ye did not choose me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that ye should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should abide: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

Speak unto Aaron and unto his sons, saying, On this wise ye shall bless the children of Israel: ye shall say unto them,Jehovah bless thee, and keep thee:Jehovah make his face to shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:Jehovah lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.

And Jehovah said unto Aaron, Thou and thy sons and thy fathers’ house with thee shall bear the iniquity of the sanctuary; and thou and thy sons with thee shall bear the iniquity of your priesthood.And thy brethren also, the tribe of Levi, the tribe of thy father, bring thou near with thee, that they may be joined unto thee, and minister unto thee: but thou and thy sons with thee shall be before the tent of the testimony.And they shall keep thy charge, and the charge of all the Tent: only they shall not come nigh unto the vessels of the sanctuary and unto the altar, that they die not, neither they, nor ye.And they shall be joined unto thee, and keep the charge of the tent of meeting, for all the service of the Tent: and a stranger shall not come nigh unto you.And ye shall keep the charge of the sanctuary, and the charge of the altar; that there be wrath no more upon the children of Israel.And I, behold, I have taken your brethren the Levites from among the children of Israel: to you they are a gift, given unto Jehovah, to do the service of the tent of meeting.And thou and thy sons with thee shall keep your priesthood for everything of the altar, and for that within the veil; every one that is clean in thy house shall eat thereof.All the best of the oil, and all the best of the vintage, and of the grain, the first- fruits of them which they give unto Jehovah, to thee have I given them.The first- ripe fruits of all that is in their land, which they bring unto Jehovah, shall be thine; every one that is clean in thy house shall eat thereof.Everything devoted in Israel shall be thine.Everything that openeth the womb, of all flesh which they offer unto Jehovah, both of man and beast shall be thine: nevertheless the first- born of man shalt thou surely redeem, and the firstling of unclean beasts shalt thou redeem.And those that are to be redeemed of them from a month old shalt thou redeem, according to thine estimation, for the money of five shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary( the same is twenty gerahs).But the firstling of a cow, or the firstling of a sheep, or the firstling of a goat, thou shalt not redeem; they are holy: thou shalt sprinkle their blood upon the altar, and shalt burn their fat for an offering made by fire, for a sweet savor unto Jehovah.And the flesh of them shall be thine, as the wave- breast and as the right thigh, it shall be thine.All the heave- offerings of the holy things, which the children of Israel offer unto Jehovah, have I given thee, and thy sons and thy daughters with thee, as a portion for ever: it is a covenant of salt for ever before Jehovah unto thee and to thy seed with thee.And Jehovah said unto Aaron, Thou shalt have no inheritance in their land, neither shalt thou have any portion among them: I am thy portion and thine inheritance among the children of Israel.And unto the children of Levi, behold, I have given all the tithe in Israel for an inheritance, in return for their service which they serve, even the service of the tent of meeting.And henceforth the children of Israel shall not come nigh the tent of meeting, lest they bear sin, and die.But the Levites shall do the service of the tent of meeting, and they shall bear their iniquity: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations; and among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance.For the tithe of the children of Israel, which they offer as a heave- offering unto Jehovah, I have given to the Levites for an inheritance: therefore I have said unto them, Among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance.And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying,Moreover thou shalt speak unto the Levites, and say unto them, When ye take of the children of Israel the tithe which I have given you from them for your inheritance, then ye shall offer up a heave- offering of it for Jehovah, a tithe of the tithe.And your heave- offering shall be reckoned unto you, as though it were the grain of the threshing- floor, and as the fulness of the winepress.Thus ye also shall offer a heave- offering unto Jehovah of all your tithes, which ye receive of the children of Israel; and thereof ye shall give Jehovah’s heave- offering to Aaron the priest.Out of all your gifts ye shall offer every heave- offering of Jehovah, of all the best thereof, even the hallowed part thereof out of it.Therefore thou shalt say unto them, When ye heave the best thereof from it, then it shall be reckoned unto the Levites as the increase of the threshing- floor, and as the increase of the wine- press.And ye shall eat it in every place, ye and your households: for it is your reward in return for your service in the tent of meeting.And ye shall bear no sin by reason of it, when ye have heaved from it the best thereof: and ye shall not profane the holy things of the children of Israel, that ye die not.

And it came to pass, when God helped the Levites that bare the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, that they sacrificed seven bullocks and seven rams.

And Aaron lifted up his hands toward the people, and blessed them; and he came down from offering the sin- offering, and the burnt- offering, and the peace- offerings.

But the Levites after the tribe of their fathers were not numbered among them.For Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying,Only the tribe of Levi thou shalt not number, neither shalt thou take the sum of them among the children of Israel;but appoint thou the Levites over the tabernacle of the testimony, and over all the furniture thereof, and over all that belongeth to it: they shall bear the tabernacle, and all the furniture thereof; and they shall minister unto it, and shall encamp round about the tabernacle.And when the tabernacle setteth forward, the Levites shall take it down; and when the tabernacle is to be pitched, the Levites shall set it up: and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death.And the children of Israel shall pitch their tents, every man by his own camp, and every man by his own standard, according to their hosts.But the Levites shall encamp round about the tabernacle of the testimony, that there be no wrath upon the congregation of the children of Israel: and the Levites shall keep the charge of the tabernacle of the testimony.

and said unto them, Ye are the heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites: sanctify yourselves, both ye and your brethren, that ye may bring up the ark of Jehovah, the God of Israel, unto the place that I have prepared for it.For because ye bare it not at the first, Jehovah our God made a breach upon us, for that we sought him not according to the ordinance.So the priests and the Levites sanctified themselves to bring up the ark of Jehovah, the God of Israel.And the children of the Levites bare the ark of God upon their shoulders with the staves thereon, as Moses commanded according to the word of Jehovah.

Therefore thus saith Jehovah, If thou return, then will I bring thee again, that thou mayest stand before me; and if thou take forth the precious from the vile, thou shalt be as my mouth: they shall return unto thee, but thou shalt not return unto them.

seemeth it but a small thing unto you, that the God of Israel hath separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to himself, to do the service of the tabernacle of Jehovah, and to stand before the congregation to minister unto them;and that he hath brought thee near, and all thy brethren the sons of Levi with thee? and seek ye the priesthood also?

Then the priests the Levites arose and blessed the people: and their voice was heard, and their prayer came up to his holy habitation, even unto heaven.

And as they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.

And the man that doeth presumptuously, in not hearkening unto the priest that standeth to minister there before Jehovah thy God, or unto the judge, even that man shall die: and thou shalt put away the evil from Israel.

Yet they shall be ministers in my sanctuary, having oversight at the gates of the house, and ministering in the house: they shall slay the burnt- offering and the sacrifice for the people, and they shall stand before them to minister unto them.

And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of Jehovah unto its place, into the oracle of the house, to the most holy place, even under the wings of the cherubim.

Now these are the generations of Aaron and Moses in the day that Jehovah spake with Moses in mount Sinai.And these are the names of the sons of Aaron: Nadab the first- born, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the priests that were anointed, whom he consecrated to minister in the priest’s office.And Nadab and Abihu died before Jehovah, when they offered strange fire before Jehovah, in the wilderness of Sinai, and they had no children; and Eleazar and Ithamar ministered in the priest’s office in the presence of Aaron their father.

But the priests the Levites, the sons of Zadok, that kept the charge of my sanctuary when the children of Israel went astray from me, they shall come near to me to minister unto me; and they shall stand before me to offer unto me the fat and the blood, saith the Lord Jehovah:

And this is the thing that thou shalt do unto them to hallow them, to minister unto me in the priest’s office: take one young bullock and two rams without blemish,and unleavened bread, and cakes unleavened mingled with oil, and wafers unleavened anointed with oil: of fine wheaten flour shalt thou make them.And thou shalt put them into one basket, and bring them in the basket, with the bullock and the two rams.And Aaron and his sons thou shalt bring unto the door of the tent of meeting, and shalt wash them with water.And thou shalt take the garments, and put upon Aaron the coat, and the robe of the ephod, and the ephod, and the breastplate, and gird him with the skilfully woven band of the ephod;and thou shalt set the mitre upon his head, and put the holy crown upon the mitre.Then shalt thou take the anointing oil, and pour it upon his head, and anoint him.And thou shalt bring his sons, and put coats upon them.And thou shalt gird them with girdles, Aaron and his sons, and bind head- tires on them: and they shall have the priesthood by a perpetual statute: and thou shalt consecrate Aaron and his sons.And thou shalt bring the bullock before the tent of meeting: and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands upon the head of the bullock.And thou shalt kill the bullock before Jehovah, at the door of the tent of meeting.And thou shalt take of the blood of the bullock, and put it upon the horns of the altar with thy finger; and thou shalt pour out all the blood at the base of the altar.And thou shalt take all the fat that covereth the inwards, and the caul upon the liver, and the two kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, and burn them upon the altar.But the flesh of the bullock, and its skin, and it dung, shalt thou burn with fire without the camp: it is a sin- offering.Thou shalt also take the one ram; and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands upon the head of the ram.And thou shalt slay the ram, and thou shalt take its blood, and sprinkle it round about upon the altar.And thou shalt cut the ram into its pieces, and wash its inwards, and its legs, and put them with its pieces, and with its head.And thou shalt burn the whole ram upon the altar: it is a burnt- offering unto Jehovah; it is a sweet savor, an offering made by fire unto Jehovah.And thou shalt take the other ram; and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands upon the head of the ram.Then shalt thou kill the ram, and take of its blood, and put it upon the tip of the right ear of Aaron, and upon the tip of the right ear of his sons, and upon the thumb of their right hand, and upon the great toe of their right foot, and sprinkle the blood upon the altar round about.And thou shalt take of the blood that is upon the altar, and of the anointing oil, and sprinkle it upon Aaron, and upon his garments, and upon his sons, and upon the garments of his sons with him: and he shall be hallowed, and his garments, and his sons, and his sons’ garments with him.Also thou shalt take of the ram the fat, and the fat tail, and the fat that covereth the inwards, and the caul of the liver, and the two kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, and the right thigh( for it is a ram of consecration),and one loaf of bread, and one cake of oiled bread, and one wafer, out of the basket of unleavened bread that is before Jehovah.And thou shalt put the whole upon the hands of Aaron, and upon the hands of his sons, and shalt wave them for a wave- offering before Jehovah.And thou shalt take them from their hands, and burn them on the altar upon the burnt- offering, for a sweet savor before Jehovah: it is an offering made by fire unto Jehovah.And thou shalt take the breast of Aaron’s ram of consecration, and wave it for a wave- offering before Jehovah: and it shall be thy portion.And thou shalt sanctify the breast of the wave- offering, and the thigh of the heave- offering, which is waved, and which is heaved up, of the ram of consecration, even of that which is for Aaron, and of that which is for his sons:and it shall be for Aaron and his sons as their portion for ever from the children of Israel; for it is a heave- offering: and it shall be a heave- offering from the children of Israel of the sacrifices of their peace- offerings, even their heave- offering unto Jehovah.And the holy garments of Aaron shall be for his sons after him, to be anointed in them, and to be consecrated in them.Seven days shall the son that is priest in his stead put them on, when he cometh into the tent of meeting to minister in the holy place.And thou shalt take the ram of consecration, and boil its flesh in a holy place.And Aaron and his sons shall eat the flesh of the ram, and the bread that is in the basket, at the door of the tent of meeting.And they shall eat those things wherewith atonement was made, to consecrate and to sanctify them: but a stranger shall not eat thereof, because they are holy.And if aught of the flesh of the consecration, or of the bread, remain unto the morning, then thou shalt burn the remainder with fire: it shall not be eaten, because it is holy.And thus shalt thou do unto Aaron, and to his sons, according to all that I have commanded thee: seven days shalt thou consecrate them.And every day shalt thou offer the bullock of sin- offering for atonement: and thou shalt cleanse the altar, when thou makest atonement for it; and thou shalt anoint it, to sanctify it.Seven days thou shalt make atonement for the altar, and sanctify it: and the altar shall be most holy; whatsoever toucheth the altar shall be holy.

Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,

And all the elders of Israel came: and the Levites took up the ark;and they brought up the ark, and the tent of meeting, and all the holy vessels that were in the Tent; these did the priests the Levites bring up.

And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying,Speak unto Aaron, and say unto him, When thou lightest the lamps, the seven lamps shall give light in front of the candlestick.And Aaron did so; he lighted the lamps thereof so as to give light in front of the candlestick, as Jehovah commanded Moses.And this was the work of the candlestick, beaten work of gold; unto the base thereof, and unto the flowers thereof, it was beaten work: according unto the pattern which Jehovah had showed Moses, so he made the candlestick.And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying,Take the Levites from among the children of Israel, and cleanse them.And thus shalt thou do unto them, to cleanse them: sprinkle the water of expiation upon them, and let them cause a razor to pass over all their flesh, and let them wash their clothes, and cleanse themselves.Then let them take a young bullock, and its meal- offering, fine flour mingled with oil; and another young bullock shalt thou take for a sin- offering.And thou shalt present the Levites before the tent of meeting: and thou shalt assemble the whole congregation of the children of Israel:and thou shalt present the Levites before Jehovah. And the children of Israel shall lay their hands upon the Levites:and Aaron shall offer the Levites before Jehovah for a wave- offering, on the behalf of the children of Israel, that it may be theirs to do the service of Jehovah.And the Levites shall lay their hands upon the heads of the bullocks: and offer thou the one for a sin- offering, and the other for a burnt- offering, unto Jehovah, to make atonement for the Levites.And thou shalt set the Levites before Aaron, and before his sons, and offer them for a wave- offering unto Jehovah.Thus shalt thou separate the Levites from among the children of Israel; and the Levites shall be mine.And after that shall the Levites go in to do the service of the tent of meeting: and thou shalt cleanse them, and offer them for a wave- offering.For they are wholly given unto me from among the children of Israel; instead of all that openeth the womb, even the first- born of all the children of Israel, have I taken them unto me.For all the first- born among the children of Israel are mine, both man and beast: on the day that I smote all the first- born in the land of Egypt I sanctified them for myself.And I have taken the Levites instead of all the first- born among the children of Israel.And I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron and to his sons from among the children of Israel, to do the service of the children of Israel in the tent of meeting, and to make atonement for the children of Israel; that there be no plague among the children of Israel, when the children of Israel come nigh unto the sanctuary.Thus did Moses, and Aaron, and all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the Levites: according unto all that Jehovah commanded Moses touching the Levites, so did the children of Israel unto them.And the Levites purified themselves from sin, and they washed their clothes: and Aaron offered them for a wave- offering before Jehovah; and Aaron made atonement for them to cleanse them.And after that went the Levites in to do their service in the tent of meeting before Aaron, and before his sons: as Jehovah had commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so did they unto them.And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying,This is that which belongeth unto the Levites: from twenty and five years old and upward they shall go in to wait upon the service in the work of the tent of meeting:and from the age of fifty years they shall cease waiting upon the work, and shall serve no more,but shall minister with their brethren in the tent of meeting, to keep the charge, and shall do no service. Thus shalt thou do unto the Levites touching their charges.

and also the Levites shall no more have need to carry the tabernacle and all the vessels of it for the service thereof.

And all the elders of Israel came, and the priests took up the ark.And they brought up the ark of Jehovah, and the tent of meeting, and all the holy vessels that were in the Tent; even these did the priests and the Levites bring up.

Ye that stand in the house of Jehovah, In the courts of the house of our God.

But when it was the good pleasure of God, who separated me, even from my mother’s womb, and called me through his grace,

Lift up your hands to the sanctuary, And bless ye Jehovah.

Wherefore Come ye out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, And touch no unclean thing; And I will receive you,

or ministry, let us give ourselves to our ministry; or he that teacheth, to his teaching;

And he set the mitre upon his head; and upon the mitre, in front, did he set the golden plate, the holy crown; as Jehovah commanded Moses.

And their charge shall be the ark, and the table, and the candlestick, and the altars, and the vessels of the sanctuary wherewith they minister, and the screen, and all the service thereof.

My sons, be not now negligent; for Jehovah hath chosen you to stand before him, to minister unto him, and that ye should be his ministers, and burn incense.
