Yet the Lord set his affection on your ancestors and loved them, and he chose you, their descendants, above all the nations— as it is today.

But the Lord loved your people of long ago very much. You are their children. And he chose you above all the other nations. His love and his promise remain with you to this very day.

Yet the Lord set his heart in love on your fathers and chose their offspring after them, you above all peoples, as you are this day.

Yet the Lord chose your ancestors as the objects of his love. And he chose you, their descendants, above all other nations, as is evident today.

Yet the LORD had his heart set on your ancestors and loved them. He chose their descendants after them— he chose you out of all the peoples, as it is today.

Yet the Lord set His affection on your fathers, to love them, and He chose their descendants after them, you over all the other peoples, as it is this day.

耶和華若是喜悅我們，就必把我們領進那地，把那地賜給我們，那地原是流奶與蜜的地。

耶和華喜愛你們，揀選你們，並不是因為你們的人數比別的民族多，其實你們的人數在萬族中是最少的；而是因為耶和華對你們的愛，又因為他遵守他向你們的列祖所起的誓，他才用大能的手把你們領出來，把你們從為奴之家，從埃及王法老的手裡拯救出來。

正如經上所記的：“我愛雅各，卻惡以掃。”既是這樣，我們可以說甚麼呢？神不公平嗎？絕對不會！因為他對摩西說：“我要憐憫誰，就憐憫誰；我要恩待誰，就恩待誰。”這樣看來，既不是出於人意，也不是由於人為（“人為”原文作“奔走”或“奔跑”），只在於那憐憫人的神。經上有話對法老說：“我把你興起來，是要藉著你顯出我的大能，並且使我的名傳遍全地。”這樣看來，他願意憐憫誰就憐憫誰，願意誰剛硬就使誰剛硬。這樣，你會對我說：“那麼他為甚麼責怪人呢？有誰抗拒他的旨意呢？”你這個人哪，你是誰，竟敢跟神頂嘴呢？被造的怎麼可以對造他的說：“你為甚麼把我做成這個樣子呢？”陶匠難道沒有權用同一團的泥，又做貴重的、又做卑賤的器皿嗎？如果神有意要顯明他的忿怒，彰顯他的大能，而多多容忍那可怒、預備遭毀滅的器皿，為了要使他豐盛的榮耀，彰顯在那蒙恩、早已預備要得榮耀的器皿上，這又有甚麼不可呢？
