上帝既用許多階段許多方式、在往古時候、藉着眾神言人向列祖說話，

但是永恆主由眾神言人眾先見者經手、屢次警諭以色列人和猶大人說：『應當轉離你們罪的壞行徑，謹守我的誡命律例，照我一切的律法去行，就是我所吩咐你們列祖、並由我僕人神言人們經手傳給你們的。』他們卻不聽，竟硬着脖子，像他們那些不信服永恆主他們的上帝、的列祖硬着脖子一樣；他們棄絕了永恆主的律例和他跟他們列祖所立的約，又棄絕了他所警諭他們的話，去隨從虛無的神，而成為虛妄，又隨從他們四圍的外國人、就是永恆主曾吩咐不可照他們的樣子行的。

你也降臨在西乃山，從天上同他們說話，賜給他們正當事的典章、真正的禮節規矩、美好之條例和誡命；你又使他們知道你的聖安息日，並由你僕人摩西經手、將誡命條例律法吩咐他們遵守。你從天上將糧食賜給他們、去給他們充饑，又使水從磐石間流出來、給他們解渴；你又吩咐他們要進來取得這地、就是你曾舉手起誓給他們的。『但是他們、我們的祖宗、狂妄傲慢，硬着脖子，不聽你的誡命，不肯聽從，也不記掛你在他們中間所行的奇妙作為，竟硬着脖子，立了首領，要返回他們在埃及為奴的地步。但你是樂意赦免人、的上帝：你有恩惠有憐憫，不輕易發怒，而有豐盛的堅愛：你不撇棄他們。
