‘ The four great beasts are four kings that will rise from the earth.

He said,‘ The four large animals stand for four kings. The kings will appear on the earth.

Then four huge beasts came up out of the water, each different from the others.The first beast was like a lion with eagles’ wings. As I watched, its wings were pulled off, and it was left standing with its two hind feet on the ground, like a human being. And it was given a human mind.

Then he said,“ I am here to tell you what will happen later in the time of wrath. What you have seen pertains to the very end of time.The two horned ram represents the kings of Media and Persia.The shaggy male goat represents the king of Greece, and the large horn between his eyes represents the first king of the Greek Empire.The four prominent horns that replaced the one large horn show that the Greek Empire will break into four kingdoms, but none as great as the first.

By the power of your hand, O Lord, destroy those who look to this world for their reward. But satisfy the hunger of your treasured ones. May their children have plenty, leaving an inheritance for their descendants.

Then I saw a beast rising up out of the sea. It had seven heads and ten horns, with ten crowns on its horns. And written on each head were names that blasphemed God.

Your Majesty, you are the greatest of kings. The God of heaven has given you sovereignty, power, strength, and honor.He has made you the ruler over all the inhabited world and has put even the wild animals and birds under your control. You are the head of gold.“ But after your kingdom comes to an end, another kingdom, inferior to yours, will rise to take your place. After that kingdom has fallen, yet a third kingdom, represented by bronze, will rise to rule the world.Following that kingdom, there will be a fourth one, as strong as iron. That kingdom will smash and crush all previous empires, just as iron smashes and crushes everything it strikes.

Then I saw another beast come up out of the earth. He had two horns like those of a lamb, but he spoke with the voice of a dragon.
