When the king heard this, he was greatly distressed; he was determined to rescue Daniel and made every effort until sundown to save him.

When the king heard this, he was very upset. He didn’t want Daniel to be harmed in any way. Until sunset, he did everything he could to save him.

Then the king, when he heard these words, was much distressed and set his mind to deliver Daniel. And he labored till the sun went down to rescue him.

Hearing this, the king was deeply troubled, and he tried to think of a way to save Daniel. He spent the rest of the day looking for a way to get Daniel out of this predicament.

As soon as the king heard this, he was very displeased; he set his mind on rescuing Daniel and made every effort until sundown to deliver him.

猶太人回答：“我們有律法，根據那律法，他是該死的，因為他自命為神的兒子。”彼拉多聽見這話，就更加害怕，又進了官邸，問耶穌：“你究竟是從哪裡來的？”耶穌卻不回答他。彼拉多對他說：“你不對我說話嗎？你不知道我有權釋放你，也有權把你釘十字架嗎？”耶穌說：“如果不是從天上給你權柄，你就無權辦我；因此，把我交給你的那人，罪更重了。”從那時起，彼拉多想釋放耶穌；可是猶太人卻喊叫說：“如果你釋放這個人，就不是凱撒的忠臣了。凡是自命為王的，就是與凱撒為敵。”

當時尼布甲尼撒勃然大怒，吩咐人把沙得拉、米煞和亞伯尼歌帶來；他們就被帶到王面前。

群眾聚集的時候，彼拉多問他們：“你們要我給你們釋放誰？耶數．巴拉巴或是稱為基督的耶穌呢？”他知道他們是因為嫉妒才把耶穌交了來。彼拉多坐在審判臺上的時候，他的夫人派人來說：“你不要干涉這個義人的事，因為昨夜我在夢中因他受了很多的苦。”祭司長和長老慫恿群眾，叫他們去要求釋放巴拉巴，除掉耶穌。總督問他們：“這兩個人，你們要我給你們釋放哪一個？”他們說：“巴拉巴！”彼拉多對他們說：“那麼，我怎樣處置那稱為基督的耶穌呢？”他們齊聲說：“把他釘十字架！”彼拉多說：“為甚麼呢？他作了甚麼惡事呢？”眾人更加大聲喊叫：“把他釘十字架！”彼拉多見無濟於事，反會引起騷動，就拿水在群眾面前洗手，說：“流這人的血，與我無關，你們自己負責吧。”

彼拉多召集了祭司長、官長和民眾，對他們說：“你們把這人押到我這裡來，說他煽惑群眾，我已經在你們面前審訊過，在他身上一點也找不到你們控告他的罪狀，連希律也找不到，又把他送回我這裡，可見他沒有作過該死的事。我要責打他，然後把他釋放。”（有些抄本有第17節：“每逢節期，他必須照例給他們釋放一個囚犯。”也有些抄本把這句放在第19節後）
