這話還在王口中的時候，有聲音從天降下，說：「尼布甲尼撒王啊，有話對你說，你的國離開你了。

惡人歡樂的聲音是暫時的，不敬虔人的喜樂不過是轉眼之間。

但在他們滿足食慾以前，食物還在他們口中的時候，上帝的怒氣就向他們上騰，殺了他們當中肥壯的人，打倒以色列的青年。

於是王所有的智慧人都進前來，他們卻不能讀那文字，也不能為王講解它的意思。

於是從他那裏顯出指頭寫這文字。「所寫的文字是：『彌尼，彌尼，提客勒，烏法珥新。』解釋是這樣：彌尼就是上帝數算你國的年日到此完畢。提客勒就是你被秤在天平上，秤出你的虧欠來。毗勒斯就是你的國要分裂，歸給瑪代人和波斯人。」

我又看見死了的人，無論大小，都站在寶座前。案卷都展開了，並另有一卷展開，就是生命冊。死了的人都憑着這些案卷所記載的，照他們所行的受審判。於是海交出其中的死人，死亡和陰間也交出其中的死人；他們都照各人所行的受審判。死亡和陰間也被扔進火湖裏，這火湖就是第二次的死。凡名字沒有記在生命冊上的人，就被扔進火湖裏。

現在智慧人和巫師都被帶到我面前，要叫他們讀這文字，為我講解它的意思；無奈他們都不能講解它的意思。

人屢次受責罰，仍然硬着頸項，他必頃刻被毀，無從醫治。

塗去了在律例上所寫、敵對我們、束縛我們的字據，把它撤去，釘在十字架上。

當時這話就應驗在尼布甲尼撒身上，他被趕出離開世人，吃草如牛，身體被天上的露水滴濕，頭髮長得像鷹的羽毛，指甲長得像鳥爪。

因為你們自己明明知道，主的日子來到會像賊在夜間突然來到一樣。人正說平安穩定的時候，災禍忽然臨到他們，如同陣痛臨到懷胎的婦人一樣，他們絕逃脫不了。

然後要對我自己說：你這個人哪，你有許多財物積存，可供多年享用，只管安安逸逸吃喝快樂吧！』上帝卻對他說：『無知的人哪！今夜就要你的性命，你所預備的要歸誰呢？』
