While these words were still on the king’s lips, a voice came down from heaven:“ It is hereby announced to you, King Nebuchadnezzar, that your kingdom has been removed from you!

that the elation of the wicked is brief, the joy of the godless lasts but a moment.

They were not yet filled up, their food was still in their mouths,when the anger of God flared up against them. He killed some of the strongest of them; he brought the young men of Israel to their knees.

So all the king’s wise men came in, but they were unable to read the writing or to make known its interpretation to the king.

Therefore the palm of a hand was sent from him, and this writing was inscribed.“ This is the writing that was inscribed: MENE, MENE, TEQEL, and PHARSIN.This is the interpretation of the words: As for mene– God has numbered your kingdom’s days and brought it to an end.As for teqel– you are weighed on the balances and found to be lacking.As for peres– your kingdom is divided and given over to the Medes and Persians.”

And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne. Then books were opened, and another book was opened– the book of life. So the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to their deeds.The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and Death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each one was judged according to his deeds.Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death– the lake of fire.If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, that person was thrown into the lake of fire.

Now the wise men and astrologers were brought before me to read this writing and make known to me its interpretation. But they were unable to disclose the interpretation of the message.

The one who stiffens his neck after numerous rebukes will suddenly be destroyed without remedy.

He has destroyed what was against us, a certificate of indebtedness expressed in decrees opposed to us. He has taken it away by nailing it to the cross.

Now in that very moment this pronouncement about Nebuchadnezzar came true. He was driven from human society, he ate grass like oxen, and his body became damp with the dew of the sky, until his hair became long like an eagle’s feathers, and his nails like a bird’s claws.

For you know quite well that the day of the Lord will come in the same way as a thief in the night.Now when they are saying,“ There is peace and security,” then sudden destruction comes on them, like labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will surely not escape.

And I will say to myself,“ You have plenty of goods stored up for many years; relax, eat, drink, celebrate!”’But God said to him,‘ You fool! This very night your life will be demanded back from you, but who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’
