After he has arisen, his empire will be broken up and parceled out toward the four winds of heaven. It will not go to his descendants, nor will it have the power he exercised, because his empire will be uprooted and given to others.

Not long after his rule ends, his kingdom will be broken up. It will be divided up into four parts. His children will not receive it when he dies. And it will not be as strong as his kingdom. It will be pulled up by the roots. And it will be given to others.

And as soon as he has arisen, his kingdom shall be broken and divided toward the four winds of heaven, but not to his posterity, nor according to the authority with which he ruled, for his kingdom shall be plucked up and go to others besides these.

但以理說：“在夜間的異象中，我看見天的四風，攪動大海。

我甚麼時候宣布要拔出、拆毀、毀滅一邦或一國，

世人來來往往只是幻影，他們忙亂也是虛空；積聚財物，卻不知道誰要來收取。

我恨惡我的一切勞碌，就是我在日光之下的勞碌，因為我不得不把勞碌的成果留給後人。那人將來是智是愚，有誰曉得呢？可是他竟要掌管一切我勞碌得來的，就是我在日光之下用智慧得來的。這又是虛空。

耶穌知道他們的心思，就對他們說：“如果一個國家自相紛爭，就必定荒涼；一城一家自相紛爭，必站立不住。

耶和華對耶利米說：“你要這樣對他說：‘耶和華這樣說：看哪！我所建立的，我必拆毀；我所栽種的，我必拔除。我必這樣對待全地。

神卻對他說：‘無知的人哪，今天晚上，你的靈魂必被取去，你所預備的要歸給誰呢？’

惡人的歡呼並不長久，不敬虔者的快樂，不過是暫時的嗎？雖然他的高貴上達於天，他的頭直插雲霄，他必永遠滅亡像自己的糞一般，素來看見他的，都要說：‘他在哪裡呢？’

我曾看見強暴的惡人興旺，像樹木在本土茂盛。但他很快就消逝，不再存在了；我尋找他，卻找不到。

此後，我繼續觀看，看見另一隻獸像豹，背上有鳥的四個翅膀；這獸有四個頭，又有權柄給了牠。

拋屍和倒灰的整個山谷，以及從汲淪溪直到東邊馬門拐角一帶所有的墓地，都必歸耶和華為聖，永遠不再拔出，不再傾覆。”

有人孤單無依，沒有兒子，沒有兄弟，仍勞碌不休，眼目也不以自己的財富為足。他問：“我勞勞碌碌，刻薄自己不去享受，是為誰呢？”這也是虛空，是勞苦的擔子。

他們倚靠財富，自誇多財。但他們沒有一個能把他的兄弟贖回，或把他的贖價交給神，（因為他生命的贖價非常昂貴，只好永遠放棄，）使他永遠活著，不見朽壞。他看見智慧人死去，愚昧人和愚頑人一同滅亡，把他們的財產留給別人。他們心裡想，他們的家必永存，他們的住處必留到萬代；他們以自己的名，稱自己的地方。但是人不能長享富貴；他們就像要滅亡的牲畜一樣。

直到我進了神的聖所，才明白他們的結局。你實在把他們安放在滑地，使他們倒下、滅亡。他們忽然間成了多麼荒涼，被突然的驚恐完全消滅。人睡醒了怎樣看夢，主啊！你睡醒了，也要照樣輕看他們（“他們”原文作“他們的影像”）。
